This weekend is bad. I'm at my wife's parents place all day saturday, then at a block party oktoberfest on sunday. Hopefully the new construction goes smoothly!
I hope your wife isn't upset about the holes in the ceiling. I suppose you'll need to patch those before you try putting more up there. |

Yeah, I need to get it fixed pretty soon. I got another project to work on for the next week or so. The canopy lift thingy is going to have to wait. I am hopefully going to get the closed loop running tomorrow though. Do you have any threaded 1" unions? I don't think H/D has any. Maybe Albert does, I gotta go over there tomorrow anyways. Once I get the C/L going, I will probably need to secure my frags a little better. They will surely get blown all over the tank. Have a good weekend bro, I will be here.

The skimmer started skimming a little bit yesterday! I need to learn some more about these recirc skimmers so I can get some really good performance out of it.

I had the same manifold idea myself a couple years ago. Can I potentially suggest that you use a smaller dameter PVC though to construct it? It appears that the size you have in there is much much bigger than necessary unless you're trying to move thousands of gallons per hour through it, and it might be more aesthetically pleasing to go with something smaller diameter. Personally I picked up 1/2 inch PVC for my 40 Br, though I must admit I never got around to implementing it. My 2 cents.

Front Right Side My awesome blue Zoas! Widmer, that is a good idea. I might actually do that. I hadn't really thought of it. It wouldn't cost but a few bucks to do either.

I rescaped the tank last night. I will post some pics later after the lights come on and everything opens up.

I think the re-scape looks great! I like how you managed to get the open area at an angle, not just two big piles of rocks dumped there. I'd like to see a shot from a distance where you can see the whole setup from the floor to top of the canopy.

There you go. I think the color is pretty accurate in these pics. The bulb selection worked out perfect. As you can see, I still need to fix the holes in the ceiling and make a cover for the wires and outlets on the right side.

Here is my new addition. My Yellow Coris Wrasse has been burried in since I moved everything around. I hope I didn't smash him. I got the clown a little buddy. Hopefully they will pair up.

I like the new look - especially when you take a step back.
looking great! Have you thought about painting the white PVC in the tank black?

I will be painting it. I am just trying some stuff right now. It is not final. I am going to redo the manifold out of 1/2" and then I can take out the eductors. They are pretty big. Thanks for the compliments.

Joe, I hope you didn't start replumbing your manifold yet. I had two thoughts for you...
First - if you do re-do the plumbing, I'd try to work your scwd into it. I can send you pictures of my mod so that the thing is accessible if it ever needs work. Second - I'd highly recommend NOT using all 1/2" PVC. It will be a little smaller and sleeker - yes, but it's all hidden anyway. If you use all 1/2" you will have much higher flow restriction throughout. Without going into the fluid dynamics too much, think of this: volumetric flow rate (GPH essentially) = velocity(V) * cross sectional area(A). because of your pump, the GPH is fixed. So by decreasing A, the V will increase (navier-stokes continuity equation). Also, the resistive drag forces induced from the wall of the pipe increase as the velocity increases. Additionally, think of your pipe like a river. water right next to shore doesn't move that fast, but water in the middle moves faster. This is the boundary layer. With a smaller diameter pipe, the boundary layer has more of an effect on the flow. This resistive force in this case can be thought of as back pressure. To sum up, smaller diameter pipe = higher back pressure. You are best off continuing to use the 3/4" for all the plumbing, and restrict down to a 1/2" at the nozzles. I believe they make T-fittings that are 3/4 in and out, but have a 1/2" T off the side. These would be perfect. You will get the same flow rate total out of the nozzles, but by restricting the nozzles down you add a little resistance to flow, so the water will make it down to the end of your manifold. Remember, GPH = velocity*area. Restrict area and you'll get higher velocity. I hope this all makes sense. If not let me know where I lost you and I'll explain it a little differently. |

Ryan, here are your corals, safe and sound.
I am not sure if the one is a type of clove or green star polyps. I am inclined to thing it is a clove because of the way the base of it is built up.

They're looking good and healthy. I couldn't really tell you what the one is. I'm pretty sure I did get some green star polyps though. There is another encrusting/branching thing (pic 1) that I don't know what it is. Thanks for keeping them for me for a bit.

They are all doing good. The red mushroom detached from its rock. I am going to try to get it to attach itself to something. I didn't want to play my game I guess. The stick thing is more open now. Almost all of the polyps are open now. Lookin good!

I got a couple of $2 SPS frags from Sharky's yesterday. 1 of them is a green polyp birdsnest and the other one is some kind of branching monti from what I can tell. Can't beat them for $2 each. I reserved my clam that I will be picking up today. I might either get a cleaner shrimp or a these awesome zoanthids that they have if I can clear it through the wife. The clam is already cleared, so that is a go! It is an awesome 3-4" Crocea. I prefer Maximas, but they don't have any in right now. Sharky's is "The Place!"
