That's the problem, Colleen. The tide comes in, the tide goes out, the tide comes in, the tide goes out....

What do you think of the ozone and UV ideas? Melev vs. PO4, I know who my money's on. It's just a mater of time. ![]() |

I don't know why I'd need UV, but the ozone topic does seem to have some merit. Of course, as my SPS dwindle down from what I had, it isn't as necessary.

Btw, I got a couple of stalks of what appears to be Pom Pom Pulsing Xenia. Personally, I love this kind but so does Spock, my Naso Tang. So I've not put any in my tank since he devoured my original colony last year.
I put it in the refugium under my 19w 5100K bulb ( http://www.melevsreef.com/fuge_bulb.html -- scroll to the bottom of the page to see the correct bulb ) last week, and seven days later it is very happy, pulsing away even under 24/7 lighting. The reason I bring this up is because Xenia is one of those corals that typically will close up when water is out of whack. The fact that this coral is happy in my tank, or actually in my refugium, is very interesting to me.

Marc you've probably thought about this before but I came across this page today and thought about your problems. Could it be that you have these flatworms and they have gotten out of control at the same time you had a phos problem? Or the phos problem just stressed them enough to put them over the edge?
Anyway here is the link http://www.mspreef.com/ |

I thought xenia did best in water with higher nutrient levels than SPS usually tolerate. Read somewhere that xenia are found to do well near sewer discharges or something like that.

Is it feasible to "gravel vac" a few small areas and run PO4 tests on the effluent? It might start to show the source of the problem maybe? |

I have a feeling that kalabarass didn't read the whole thread. I get the feeling that kalabrass picked this particular thread to spam because of it's size and activity...
My guess is several other forums will be getting similar shills...

Edit: Sure wish it was possible to delete ones own posts.
I did try the gravel vac of substrate and testing. My water showed 0 and the water from the vac job showed a reading.

The PhosBuster Pro arrived today, along with Purple Up and Aragamilk.
I tested my water before starting, after dosing 8 tsp of baked Baking Soda to increase Alkalinty as directed on the product: Salinity 1.024 Temp 79.8 pH 8.12 Alk 12.8 dKH Ca 500ppm PO4 1.25 to 1.5 I dosed with 330 ml of Phosbuster, after waiting 10 minutes of the baking soda to mix thoroughly with the system. Btw, when I dose products like these, I pour it down a tube to the intake pump so it will mix as it pumps up to the tank. By pouring it very slowly over 30 seconds, I avoid a dense spot in the tank or sump. The tank is a bluish cloud now, but that is normal according to the product. It mentions to wait 72 hours for results, but I'll test more frequently than that. ![]()

Here is the tank when I dosed the product at 3:50pm.
![]() ![]() And fourty-five minutes later. ![]() ![]() I'll probably test the water later this evening, or maybe wait until tomorrow to give it 24 hours.
