What is the best cheap hang on the back skimmer for a 75? What is the best cheap sump skimmer for a 90? Thank you for your advice.

I would second the typhoon for a good HOB skimmer.
As far as in sump is concerned we are all working on that one, some of us have odyssea PS160's which look promising and Luke has a Via aqua that looks promising as well. I don't think we have anything definate yet. Luke: I have noticed that the odyssea is kind of a pain to "dial in" as well. |

ok got my pump in. They forgot to send the thread adapter but no worries. Till then I'm using 3/4" hose to accommodate my needs .
here is the pic. I was way to eager to install it so I didn't even give it a vinegar rinse to cut down the break in process lol. it is completely filled with froth! The big bubbles you see are a result of the oily residue which would have been gone right away with vinegar oh well. They stick to the sides in the beginning but will go away in time. As for the mesh mod. It was the first thing I did. However, although it did pull in TONS more air it also made the almost silent pump audible. And I couldn't take it more than 1 minute. So I removed it and deleted my pictures. I don't recommend it on the PS75. On a side note,I don't know how this would be as a HOB off the main tank. There is a lot of micro bubbles commin through. Apparently the ps160 doesn't have this problem according to you guys here. Though keep in mind I have not installed the provided foam on the outlet which would all but get rid of all the bubbles. While I was on the phone with them about the thread adapter I ordered a 9w UV sterilizer for $25 BAM. lol I must say even though it's not broken in I am nothing but satisfied! The skimmer is awesome! It's not the cell cast tube my euro reef has but OMG my ER was $235!!! This is perfect for smaller tanks! A++++

So what size systems will the 160 and 75 do anyway? Also if you upgrade the 160 to a GenX Pump would you get a better skimmer?

Importer
Anyone here know who the importer for the Jebo/Odyssea line is? I have been trying to locate one with little success. There are no LFS's that sell them north of the border so the price more then doubles by the time you add shipping, duty, brokerage to get one here.
If anyone can point me to an importer I will gladly become a distributor up here. I have used quite a few of their products and have not had a single problem to date. Not to mention that the more i look at the expensive name brand stuff the more I see how much of it is actually made in China probably right beside the Jebo factory.. JBJ is a good one. Look at their power heads, they don't even change the package other then the name. |

Newreefer, i haven't heard of a canadian jebo/odyssea seller. You may want to contact aquatraders and see what they say.

Chev, when checking my via aqua the smorning, it still hadn't produced any skimmate. I do have it set perfect and the riser tube has skimmate slime on it. I think i'm close maybe another day or two. But by the end of the week i think it'll be producing pretty well. I've only talked to three people who have used them and one presently uses it and says its very good for the price, another said he always got bashed for using it, and it produced very well, once you got it tuned in properly and the other person i talked to couldn't stop talking about the thickness, smell and quality of skimmate it produced. (he was a deltec rep) Also, via aqua used these skimmers on there 300-500g tanks there. I have complete confidence this thing is going to be a huge producer and as soon as i get some skimmate i'll post some pics. Believe me the waiting game sucks!

My take after 5 days of skimming. Well its been 5 days now with fully milked body of my via aqua. I noticed when i added my via aqua my remora pro stopped skimming as well. Last night about 11pm, they both started to skim(finally) So what i noticed today at 7am was pretty astonishing. So the skimmers had been skimming for 8hrs. In those 8 hrs they produced the same exact color of skimmate which was a light green color, nothing impressive but the skimmer did just break in. The huge difference was this. My remora pro with the mag 7 produced about 2-3oz of the skimmate. My new via aqua produced a wopping 4 cups! I'm sure when i get home tonight after work i will have another 4 cups. I did adjust the skimmer to produce a dryer skimate so hopefully this works. I have not emptied my remora but i had to empty the via aqua. I will try and take pics of the skimmate tonight and will post. I'll get a comparable shot between the remora pro and via aqua. FWIW, they are both in the sump and they are both pulling water from teh same source. So there is no difference in water they are skimming.

was the extra noise coming from air suction or pump? how many layers of mesh did you use? and did you modify the existing impellar or just zip tie mesh on top of it? |

Koraltek, I used one layer Nylon needle pointers sheet. I'll try again when I have the energy. My back has really been in the crapper lately.

i would really try the enkamat instead of the needle pointer sheet, here's where you can buy a piece without having to buy enough for 100 mods.

Oh and an update on my end. I already started getting some wet skimate. It's gonna be a while till i can tune the thing. But on a better note for all you HOB people, it's producing barely any micro bubbles out of the exit now. I'm sure that the sponge WILL kill those off. I'll try the mesh again soon and keep you all up to date.
