Yes, looks exactly the same as what comes with the DAS. There is a little piece of black tubing on the valves barb to build it up larger so that it will fit snug on the DAS airline tubing. So, you probably need to slide a short length of regular airline tubing or peristaltic tubing on the TLF valves so that they will fit snug when you slide them into the the DAS airline tubing.

Here's how I'm feeding my EX-1. As you can see, I'm getting some air in the pipes.

and this is what I've been getting in about 5 days.

Does that look right to you?

This is what my EX2 looks like now

I'm skimming on the wet side now , but man did this thing some nasty junk when i was skimming dry. It's sitting inside a half filled 120g tank that is in the process of being built, hopefully i can have the sump finished next week so i can move the skimmer inside the stand and get it plumbed ...

What size unions?

Greetings!

On the EX-1 it looks like the unions on the
input = 1"
recirc pump = 3/4"
output = 1-1/4".

Could someone with an EX-1 verify this for me.
Thanks.

They are the same on the 1 and 2. Input and pumps are 1/2" and output is 1". Spears unions, schedule 40 I believe.

I'm planning to gravity-feed 100% of my overflow into a recirculating skimmer.

(1) What is the recommended flow through a DAS EX-1?
(2) Is the EX-1 "leak-proof" enough to be placed in a shallow pan outside a sump?

I hope your sump pump doesn't get ahead of the through-put of the EX-1.
How do you plan to adjust the skimmers levels without a path for any excess water?

I plan to purchase a return pump whose output is less than the maximum flow rate through the skimmer.
What is the recommended flow rate through the EX-1?

I'm not sure but I think it's around 1.2 or 1.5 but someone will chime in who has one.

What's going to happen if a snail or hunk of vegetation gets lodged in your skimmer input path?

Excellent point! I may place the skimmer in a "dry" compartment in my sump or add a safety "T" to the overflow drain. Currently, a controller cuts off the return pump when the water level in the return compartment drops below a certain point. Nevertheless, unless there is a clog in the line, I'd like all of the overflow to reach the skimmer first. Any idea as to what the EX-1 flow rate is?

Like I said earlier, I think the recommended rate is 1 1/2 times the volume of your water column.
If you're referring to how much water can physically pass thru your EX-1, then that would be determined by the ID of the skimmer's input/output plumbing.

The DAS skimmers can run externally, they are completely leak free, or should be.

About every 2 days I check on my skimmer and its the skimmer cup is compeltely overflowed with clear water. I clean it out and reset it and its running perfect for a couple days then bam skimmer cup full of water. What could be going on?

mj1200, i notice that the water level is going up and down...so I'm sure thats what it is. Would that have to be a shotty valve that came with it, a shotty mj...or would having the skimmer return actually in the water with a fluctuating sump level of an inch through out teh day cause it?

Alright, I wanted it submerged a little so I don't have to listen to water hitting water.

I submerged half of it, this stop the water fall noise from output.
