gotta be honest here and save you some money, if you want to remove/ reduce nitrates try this
the zeostart does exactly that removes and reduces nitrates and phospates.. i use it and my tank reads 0.

I'm a bit cautious on using that though. Does say it's for new tanks and to be used in conjunction with the whole zeo system...

i dont use the Zeo system, well i did for a month but that a different story... Iwan uses it without the other zeo products as well... it really works and thus far i have seen no side effects...

it can be used on new tanks... i think you and i set up our tanks around the same time so i dont see a problem there...

I might get the smallest bottle and give it a go. I already sort of decided that I'm going to go Prodibio plus the Zeo CV and AA products so can order at the same time. Awesome.

grallster - fuge just wouldn't hold enough sand for effective denitrification on a 450g system...

Joao - not without a camera. My father-in-law did get one so I'll borrow it tomorrow and see what I can do with it....

I'm going to Thailand for a week to meet my best friend and business partner for some much needed R&R. Will be back next Saturday so I'm spending today getting the tanks ready for my absence. Mainly I'm filling the sump with an extra 30 gallons of water and bring system salinity to 1.024. Over a week as evaporation occurs I expect to return to salinity of 1.025 or 1.026 at the most. Sump can still hold any water from pipes and overflows in case of power outage etc and this way I don't have to rely on my semi-manual auto-topoff which is great but I do need to refill the reservoir manually every 3 days.

Took some pics with a normal camera yesterday and they are pretty bad but might give you a general idea....

Yea, not very good at all. I'm promising to buy myself an awesome camera this year. A Canon 30D or Rebel XT. Until then take my word gfor it that the takn looks colourful, alive and teh right island is packed full of SPS. Has about 10 colonies, a nice green monti cap and LPS on the sides.

Well, see you in a week!

Greetings RC friends.

Well, back safe and sound from the craziness of BKK. I've never found it so hard to spend alot of money, heh. All tanks are fine with no losses. Skimmer needed a good clean as did the front of the tank. The QT will be getting a good clean tomorrow and I'm 10-14 days away from putting the Regal into the main display so looking forward to that.

Hehe, yea. I think my system is pretty bullet proof. It would take a disastrous thing like one of Sequence pumps to explode and have the tank leak out that way. Even then the water would just splash down the drain. Brings up a valid question though. If a seal ever did split or something really bad happened, how bad could it be? Anyone ever heard any such horror stories?

I had a seal go bad on my sequence 4200, and the problem was slow in developing. First some salt creep started to appear on the motor shaft, and got worse over time. Eventually, I started hearing a high pitched squeal...intermittent at first, then becoming more and more persistent. Finally it got very loud, which prompted me to call Sequence. At no time did it leak faster than the water evaporated.

Sequence was great. It ended up that the seal was bad and a shaft bearing got wet and was making the noise. They replaced the seal and the entire motor no questions asked (never even asked for a receipt to establish the purchase date), and even provided a loaner pump while mine was being worked on.

If they go slow like that then hopefully it's not a large concern.

I have a spare but not by design. It turned out that my 4300 didn't really have enough power so I switched to a Hammerhead. The 4300 will do in a pinch if the Hameerhead goes South. Even having a spare pump body and impeller is a good idea. Stuff always seems to break on a 3-day weekend!!
