I know that it is a risk buying online this time of year, but so far with fish, I've faired really well over the last 5 years. This was the first near disaster.
The Regal is now swimming around just fine. I did put in a clip of Nori, but he's ignoring that now. The FS had been feeding him mysis shrimp. I will try that and a bit of clam tomorrow; soaking it in a bit of Entice or Garlic. I hope that he takes. They had him for better than 2 weeks, eating the whole time. So far, he sure isn't very shy, though he's hanging in a particular corner more than anywhere else.

Well, it looks like the Regal is surviving the terrible trip here. He is still swimming around and looking great. However, he won't eat anything so far.
In summary of the past posts in this thread, what can be done to get him to eat? When does this get serious? I have put mysis, plankton, clam, nori and angelfood blend in front of him with no success...even the clam with food in it trick. All of the above also with Garlic Guard on it too. Any suggestions?

I suspect it won't eat for a couple of days. It went thru such a tramatic experience. However, clam on the half shell seems to work for most people.
Post some pics when you have a moment. Would like to see the little feller.

Out here in Wyoming, there isn't alot of "fresh" seafood. I probably could get some of what the market calls fresh though. I will have to try that.
He's actually fairly large; near 5" I would say. He's lost his juvenile spot as well. Even though he's a yellow belly, he doesn't have much orange or red to him. He's beautiful though. I will post pictures as soon as I can.

a 1" and 1.5" regal is a superb find!! I have only had a few this size. Usually they are 2.5-4 from the marshalls. i love the colors of the juvi's. A rare find!

I've had mine now close to 5 months and is doing great.
He is an aggressive eater now, but in my tank you have to be. LOL

Well,
I tried red macro algae and mysis again today with no luck. How long can these guys go without eating. He still looks fat. Perhaps he is picking at stuff that I am not seeing. QT tank has a bit of live rock in it, so it's possible...I hope so!

I wonder if he's eating when the lights are out. He is just merrily cruising around the tank and ignoring every morsel that I put in front of him. How long can he go without eating? It's been 5 days since I received him now.

I don't think these guys are used to eating out of the water column and they have to learn it with time.
I would try a live clam or mussel on a half shell.

szwab,
I feel the same way you do. You might as well go to a casino and throw your money away. Same result.

Something I've had work a couple times in qt was to put in another small fish like a neon goby, etc. Then thye start to learn that stuff you drop in is food. This of course assues you QT!
Here is mine at the almost 1 year mark.

I bought a 2 Inch Juvi today at my local store here in Central New Jersey... The sales guy said he was picking at some live brine, so I hope this is a good sign... I'm going to pick him up next week....

This guy was eating mysis out to the water column for 2 weeks when I bought him. As in the entries I put in earlier, we had a shipping diseaster that nearly lost ever thing in the box. His bag leaked all but 1/2" of water, leaving him half in and half out. I got him into the QT without any acclimation (no water to acclimate to). He revived and has been doing OK other wise. Last night he started picking on the LR that I put in the QT. He still looks great though. I am hopeful still.
I have tried the clam trick. I did get his attention, but nothing more.

Went back to the LFS today... Looks like the Specimen is Indian Ocean... They claim the red Sea regals are very scarce these days, and very expensive..... This fish looks like it has good coloration... Also he is eating Mysid Shrimp at the store.....

Well, I picked up the fish... My 2 tangs, Kole and Dej Sailfin made themselves known quickly... Not nipping or attacking, but they swim right up to him and wiggle around.... I turned the lights off right after... Also at the store today, he ate Mysid very well... ate around 10-12 pieces....
Should I put a mirror up guys and turn lights on??

Well, I threw the lights on... Tangs went right for him..... I setup a mirror station on one side of the tank, and the tangs are pretty much over there, chasing there shadow...... The Sailfin lost interest in the regal, and the Kole comes over to the Regal now and then, flashes around him, then leaves... I think the aggression has stopped... Thank God....

The yellow belly Regal that I have had for three weeks, passed yesterday morning. This fish was eating from the first day I brought him home, and was eating like a pig until two days ago. Three days ago he had been a seemingly healthy, active, vibrant fish. The day before yesterday when I went to feed, the Regal was hiding in the rock work and didn't come out to eat. He wasn't in any apparent distress, except for the fact that he wouldn't come out of the rocks to eat. When I checked on the tank yesterday, he was dead.
