I ran into a problem! I was getting everything hooked up on my rps1000 and it kept leaking from the octopus pump so I was trying to take it off and broke it at the very tip of the pump. What should I do now? This is deff not repairable and i think it wouldn't be wise to super glue it back on so wat kind of pump should I get? Get another octopus pump? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Man I almost had it running if it wasn't for it leaking, now im stuck

Also forgot to mention that everything is brand new and I swear i didn't put alot of force on it so i have no idea as to why it would break so easily. It broke from at inlet of the pump, at the very tip. Thanks for the help

after some research and not wanting to do any major work to run a different type of pump ( ocean runner, sedra..etc ), Should I go with a OTP 1000 or upgrade to the OTP 2000, will I need any mods or is it direct fit? Also where can i get it, the only site i found is customaquatic.com, and its on backorder?

hello,
Sorry, I just figured out that 1/2" outside threaded fitting that hooks onto the inlet of the pump is broke. Now the black fitting that is stuck to the skimmer keeps spinning. What should I do? |

Does anyone know what size PVC pipe would be needed to do the gate valve mod on a NW150? I know the riser pipe is metric so you have to find a standard PCV slip coupling and use cement to glue it, but what size pvc slip is needed?
Here's a link to some good priced gate valves; http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/pro...uct%5Fid=16125

It is 1.5" PVC for the NW150/NW200 gate valve mod.
Check with you local Ace Hardware for the gate valve. The special ordered mine and I paid $16 for it. The 1.5" coupler really doesn't fit well on the output pipe. So I didn't cut my pipe, got a 1.5" rubber pipe connector and put that over the output pipe (fit real snug) and then put the 1.5" PVC in the other side with some teflon tape around the pipe to snug it up. Still need to put some zip ties on there to hold it all together better, but it is working and I didn't have to cut up my skimmer. The 1.5" coupler just didn't look like it was going to hold to well.

Thanks for the info. I wish they would have just put standard PVC on it to begin with.

Do you think you could put a peice of soft tubing around the outlet pipe of the skimmer and glue a standard 1.5" slip coupler over that? Since it's not really running that much pressure you'd think it would be ok......any thoughts?

You can slip 1 1/4" into the metric output as well. Its a pretty tight fit as well. It is probably the easiest way to do it.

If you overtighten plastic threaded parts there pretty easy to break. Its a leavage thing your putting alot more force than you think on it. I broke an iwaki pump that way. |

Seems as though Marine solutions has stopped answering their phones and returning calls. I have called quite few times to see what the deal is with these pumps not restarting.....Havent gotten a returned phone call or talked to anyone since this problem came to light.......

Thanks for the ideas, but the that broke is the adapter that goes from the inlet of recirc pump. And i took the piece out of pump by using a plier and twisting it out slowly. The problem is that the black adapter is still stuck on the skimmer ( on the inlet of recirc pump) and i can't take it off bc its spinning free, how should i get this off? Also where can i buy parts?

I've got mine in about 10" of water - I started at about 6", but noticed that the deeper the external water, the more air was able to be pulled into the skimmer and I generated a foam head I was happy with.

Max the reason I posted is because of the picture of your setup on page 35 - it looks like you are in almost no water. I thought I was seing poor performance because I was submerged too much.

What feed pump would you recommend for a 120gal tank running the RPS-3000 recirc?

Here's the current sump set-up, the water level in the skimmer chamber is right up to the rim of a 30-gallon breeder, so about 11-12 inches. You can also see the 2 lines from the overflow feeding directly into the pump:

Has anyone tried running their Octopus recirc right off of the drain for your tank? Seems like you could save having another pump in your tank, and with a ball or gate valve, you'd be able to fine tune the mixture really good.

As you can see in pic 2 and 3 that the other piece is stuck on the black adapter...I think I can get it off i found out a better way other than needle nose pliers...please hlep me out...I never even got to see how rps1000 worked...

Considering the fittings on these skimmers are metric I think you might have a hard time trying to find a new adaptor. You might just have to bite the bullet and buy a new pump if you want to keep it metric.
If your up for some serious modding you could just convert it to 1" threads. Carl |
