Running it recirculating does create a little bit of pressure on the pump depending on the plumbing size of the recirulation assembly....I tested my pumps with the recirc plumbing on even in the test tank to keep the numbers consistant when I was working with different venturi designs...

After I enlarged the venturi with a 1/4" barber fitting the sd9000 gain another 3 lpm to almost 20 lpm when running as a feed pump. But if it is running recirc mode the air flow drops back to 15 lpm. Right now I am running both pumps as feed.
be careful not to flood water from the skimmer

So it's the plumbing decreasing airflow? I would think there would be much more backpressure on the pump in standard operation...

yes plumbing increase a lot the back pressure . if you measure the pump without the elbow you will see you pull more air , when you put the elbow back the air will reduce . if you use u connection or long piping you lose a lot of air.

mavgi,

while i await the mesh from ya my friend, i am trying some other scrubbing pads on my CSS-125, now this skimmer is built a little bit differently as other as it has a narrower subchamber inside and the pipe that goes inside to skimmer from the pump is long. i am thinking it might cause not to produce nice bubbles as the water needs to travel furher to the open space and bubbles combine during this trip. am i wrong in this thinking?

what do u think about attaching Rio-2100 @ ~700GPH to this skimmer, will it be too much? should i just ditch this skimmer and get one of the open ones to get better fomage?

thanks.

Has anyone done this mod to a otp3000 on a DNW-200 recirc? Was just wondering if it will make a big difference. My skimmer has no mods done to it.

Mavji.... Thanks for the help

wait to the mesh and make the test you can change also to other pump but if the different will be more expensive i don't know if it's good idea today you can get new in cheap price to .
please if you can post picture for the skimmer .

spongebobby:

munjus try that on opt3000 if i remeber he use maxi jet 600 as a feed pump and he able to pull 20scfh i believe after he will mod the air intake he will pull more.

I would go through the mod thread and do the simplest mod first which is to replace the o-rings on the pump venturis first. If the venturi hole is blocked, that'll really kill the performance.

The LFS here (Saltwater Connection) where I got my 3 pump octopus skimmer has done the mesh mod and apparently it makes a pretty big difference..

I'm going to be taking my 3 pumps in next week and getting him to show me how to do the mod and we'll see how it performs..

I've got a NW200 that I recirced myself. The pump was pulling 15scfh when I got it. Its now pulling 60+. My pump has been modified quite a bit, so I dont think you'll see the same output, but 35+ would definitely be attainable.

RichConley

after make one more mod with another shroud more bigger and little wider i find out it's increase the water level in the skimmer body and make the pump work more quiet but not silent.

my gate valve fully open and i pull 25LPM but with the shroud the water level break in about 3/4" before the end of the collection cup .

if kent will make this mod on his skimmer body he will need to shat off one more pump or it will flood , just if he can reduce the water level it's will work.

I did the mesh mod om my quad 16" dia skimmer. I did three layers of mesh on each pump. WOW big difference. I can only run 3 of the 4 pumps now. When I run all 4 pumps with my ball valve open all the way the skimmer overflows. Bubble size is very small and dense. Will post pics soon.

To be honest I don't even know the name of the pump- A guy is sending me a couple of new import pumps he's got and never gave me a name. The only thing I know about them is that they are 600GPH at 38 watt pumps. Could be anything really- I'll be interested to see where the pumps are made...

HDTVGUY- That was my experience exactly- 4 pumps looks cooler than 3 but ya gotta love the reduced wattage :-) Maybe I'll make an LED light to put through the extra holes- Bling the thing out a bit :-P

the top of the pump is about an inch in water, and the inlet of the pump is around 2" deep.

Mine has been working well for the past week!
The only thing I've noticed is that it's a lot touchier than before especially after I feed.
