kwl1763,
thanks for the info..seeing your regal and following this thread for 3yrs I believe I am ready to try this fish when my tank is mature enough. It is still too new (2 months) to add any angelfishes. Kirk

Sad to hear bro. How long have you had the yellow belly? What do you blame the "all of the sudden " lack of appetite on?

Thanks.
I got him in mid July. I got the Scopas out that would bother him when he was eating clam on the half shell. It was just enough that the scopas would hover over him and just the lightest touch from the scopas bottom fin would make him stop eating, so I removed him. I also have another small grey belly Regal, that eats like a pig. A big Hippo which didn't bother him, Lamark, some cromis and some wrasses. Yeah I'll add another. But I may not look for a yellow belly. I may just get another grey belly to match the small guy I have. There's a place in NY that has like 8 of them now and claims that they're in excellent shape and ALL are eating like pigs. The place is called NYAquatic. |

I got my regal from NYAquatic about a year ago and it's still doing pretty good. I have actually purchased a few fish from NYAquatic and they are very reasonable to deal with.

Ronster, did you get a yellow belly or grey belly from him?
From what Mike is telling me from NYAquatic, is that the grey belly ones eat for him sooner and do better then the yellow bellies. Totally opposite of everything I've been reding. Although I did find a place the has juvies for 30 a piece. |

We'll after losing our first regal to no eating now the one that we got in March died a horrible death due to vibrio
He ate everything from day 1 and i was trying to save him the most. But in 6 days it wiped my entire tank out. Nasty bacteria that we linked to the new package of brine shrimp i bought 2 days before... So it was a sad sad day in out house when the regal went. Hopefully when this tank sits for a couple months empty we will try again. I trully miss him. Lisa |

No, FedEx never picked up the boxes, so Mike had to go pick them up and bring everything back.
I'll get it on Friday. |

I've got a gray bellied Solomon Island Regal coming from Live Aquaria's Diver's Den tomorrow. I've done a bunch of research and read through a good portion of this thread. Any last minute tips on how to help my newcomer get comfortable ASAP would be appreciated though.
Here's his pic from the Diver's Den: Actually, my biggest question is about quarantine. I know that the sooner you can get a delicate fish like this into your tank the better, but that a QT is always good to make sure they are eating and healthy. Since he is coming from the Diver's Den and they have their 2+ week QT there and are supposedly in great health before they ship, would it be in my angel's best interest to acclimate him and put him into the reef? My current acclimation plan includes a 20g tub (figured I would use it as an excuse to do a bit of a water change) of tank water. Should I leave him in there for a couple days to ensure he is eating or just give him enough time to acclimate and move him over? Last edited by nosferatu51; 08/29/2007 at 11:54 AM. |

Other tankmates?
If he is going to have to compete with other aggresives i would strongly recommend setting up a quarantine complete with LR etc. so he feels comfortable and get him eating there, then add, if your tank mates or all docile I might add hi directly but I qt everything and I mean everything more a month! I saved mine by doing that because i had to treat him!

I have a 20L that could be used as a QT if need be, but I figured that wouldn't really be big enough (fish is 5").
The only aggressive tankmate would be a purple tang, but that purple tang was one of the 1st fish in the tank and he has NEVER shown any aggression towards another fish that was added for what that's worth. He once disliked his own reflection for about a day, but that was it. |

kwl1763,
Since the regal angel is going to be the first angelfish in the tank, I do not plan on QTing it. the only other fish in the tank are a pair of cinnamon clownfish and a gold spotted rabbitfish (who is shy). Kirk

I think I will do something similar Kirk. I'll acclimate it in the 20g tank with actual tank water. Then I'll see how he's eating for a day or 2. If he's eating over those 2 days then I'll put him in the main tank, if not I'll work on him in the smaller tank first.

Well like I say I am way biased on the subject as I qt everythign for a month period! I think your plan is OK though. My only concern would be if he comes down with something catching him won't be easy but again I have no real issues with the theory.
Given that he is coming from the Diver's den though which I have only ever heard great things about I'm not as "ranty" as usual about qt in this case.
