Reefmack - Yes the iceprobe is thermoelectric. I just happen to have most of the parts around here(except the waterblock) and they didn't have one for the RSM at nanocustoms.

Josh&Jana - If it fits in the back tank, it's probably a thermoelectric type. I think it was robthedarter that added 2 additional fans in the hood to the side of the existing ones and got a degree drop that way. I'm going to add those and the rear and I'll probably never need a chiller other than the small one I'm making for a safety net...I hope.

Hodge - 50mmx50mmx10mm computer fans work. I have been looking for anyone making them with the FDB (Fluid Dynamic Bearings) as they run near silent. Scythe makes them in larger sizes with noise levels as low as 8db! I used a lil piece of fabric tape (like used on hockey sticks) on my fan edges to keep them in place and provide some vibration dampening.

Cycle Info: Ammonia: 0-0.25 somewhere in between, Nitrite: 0.05, I'll bother with nitrate when the rest is gone. Hopefully add the CUC next weekend. It has been 2wks since LR was added and the green algae just showed up on Thurs eve.

nappi82- Welcome to Reef Central and the RSM "Club"! I had to use to use the first link to see the pics, but that's OK. What's the large pink thing on the right side - an anemone, some type of coral or ? Looks nice, and so does the tank! Feel free to jump in here now - you've spent too much time lurking LOL! I didn't see any tangs either!

Josh - yep - a hurricane went through my tank for sure! Time will tell if it benefits from it. I hope so. I just was back in the tank moving the devils hand - Big Blue (my linkia star) had come up the back glass & dislodged it a bit. I moved it back close to where it was and jammed the rock in a bit - hopefully it'll stay put and not get pushed out by the star or a turbo. Still not happy with things, but maybe I'll get used to it.

Sounds like we have a few more tanks about done cycling!

Nappi82 - Welcome to the club.

Josh&Jana - Mine won't be submerged as it will have a fan as well. That is why the waterblock and heatsink are being custom made. I have a friend that owns a machine shop. Just let us know when you get address.

Has anyone every used a RIO HF (Hyper Flo) pump? I'm considering a 4HF (70gph @ 4' head) for the return from a refugium. $20, seems alright. I think I'll be about 42" or something so maybe around 80gph or so...is that enough for a refugium of only 15 gallons?

Hey guys, Reefmack hows the aqua C? Did you get the pro? Which tunze skimmer did you have and how did it fit in the max? For everyones information I have been running ozone for a week+ now and the results been excellent (been 15 years since I used ozone) I inject it through the skimmer. The unit is a Red Sea Aqua zone 100 mg it does not have a controller so I just run it on a timer about 3 hours twice a day at the 5 mg setting on the unit. I will attempt pics soon (I really suck as a photographer) Anyone else have modified or changed the skimmer? Also is there anyone else only running one of the return pumps?

Thanks,
Dave

nappi82 - I can only imagine how long it would take to read this whole thread! Split twice already. It's kinda like the neverending story There's also a ReefsUK thread on the RSM if you're up to another 47 pages of reading! Seeing new tanks makes we wish I could start mine all over again, knowing what I've learned. I guess I was right about those colorful critters being large hairy mushrooms - I might get some of those critters. Not sure what to tell you about the zoas - hopefully they open up soon.

mbdave - the AquaC Remora (not the Pro) is doing good - pulling out dark skimmate that I never saw with the RSM stock skimmer. I'll try to get a picture of the cup tomorrow. It's probably only an option without the hood though. Josh&jana's Tunze 9002 seems to be doing well, with the hood on, and michaelaz was going to be installing one if he hasn't already. I'd imagine he'll also be reporting on it some day soon. The ozone sounds good - I think i'm through buying equipment though. I don't think you can run ozone through the Remora, if I remember correctly. I'm not sure about the Tunze. Somewhere in the last few pages there was a mod by someone (sorry - forgot who) about placing a piece of the RSM sponge on the chiller side of the skimmer to stop the bubbles, and a little farther back is MAXreefer's mod of placing some tubing & a valve on the skimmer pump inlet - also to stop the microbubbles. Nothing recent on improving the skimmer output though.

Fabric tape? I think that might be what used to be called friction tape? Just guessing since I'm not a Canadian (but the wife is)

Hi - Josh asked me to post these pictures for him. A pic of his Tunze 9002 cup to show how high/low it sits, and a drawing he made of how he mounted the bracket & skimmer on the glass that separates the heater & skimmer compartments.

GDESQUIRE that's same chiller I'm running on my RSM. It's a bit pricey but really quiet & works very well.

Josh, after 2 weeks of almost nothing in the skimmer cup, I took the plunge & bought the Tunze 9002 nano skimmer. I had to order it online, so should get it sometime next week. Did you need to do any mods to based on your drawing or were all the parts included?

immer looks good...might be in my future...

OK...My big Paly colony is looking better and better everyday since it got burned by UV coming from a 1/4" gap between my MH glass and the moonlight LED plate...

UV BAD!!!! taken Thursday evening, 6 Sept after finding gap...and fixing it.

No UV GOOD! Taken Sunday morning, 9 Sept

Thankfully I don't think the UV permanently damaged the colony...

Well I just tried the install per the drawing and no luck still.
I know this hobby requires patience but this tunze install has me pulling my hair out.

Reefmack, when you installed your AquaC did you have micro bubbles afterwards ? What size tubing extention did you put on and how high off the bottom does that put you ???

Hi Michaelaz. I think I added a piece of 1/2" ID tubing to the Remora that was about 6-8" long. The pump isn't sitting on the bottom of the chamber - about midway down. I wanted it long enough that it would be well submerged, but not sucking up the stuff that settles in that chamber. Hope that helps. Yes - I did & still do get some microbubbles but the are lessening as the Remora breaks in. I now have my DIY mechanical filter right before the heater chamber (after the Remora and my ATO sensors), but I still get some mb's.

I wonder if I could/should do someting about the "stuff" in the bottom of the skimmer chamber ? Live rock ?? What about something live that would eat that ?

As far as the DIY filter is it nessecary if you you have something to clean up the "stuff" ??

I've got a newb question...hopefully I can get some guidance.

I'm receiving my second batch of LR today(15lbs). It's supposed to be awesome stuff, well cured.
My first batch (23lb) has been in the tank 2 weeks and seems to be finished cycling.

Should I try scrubbing the algae (green hair) from my existing rock or just leave it alone.

I don't think Hodge has a CUC in yet and was worried about adding the new LR and extending the cycle due to possible curing in the tank if I remember from an older post Hodge made.

Josh&Jana - You have the same tank as the one in my quarantine thread? If so is the water flow good enough? Thanks.
