Exactly. That line (when fully broken in) I choose to run about 1"-2" from the top of the neck.

This is a bad one. I am the proud new owner of a new RS-100. I have had it for just under two weeks. It is stinking up my whole house! I don't have a small place either at 2500 square feet.
The whole house smells musty...like something is wet. If I take the top off the skimmer...whew! Any ideas how to combat this? My wife is stressing something fierce. |

Clean the skimmer cup daily.

I do. It still retains this smell underneath the cabinet even when the cup is spotless.

Is this on a tank full of curing LR (live rock)? Or is this just a normal reef setup with a new skimmer added?

The only thing I don't like about my new RS80 is having to clean the cup twice a day. Nasty foam.

Problem with my skimmer. I have an ES5-3. It's worked excellent throughout the past 2-3yrs I've had it. I had an issue with the pump sticking once the power went out that cleaning didn't help. Got a new pump and worked fine for the last 5 months.
Problem now is that the unit is not skimming much. It seems that it can't create bubbles, no more than 1/2". Nothing really accumilates in the cup. I've tried adjusting the riser pipe numerous times and has not helped. I also cleaned the unit twice. After the cleaning, it seams to work for the 1st day and then back to not creating bubbles. Each cleaning of the skimmer was durring a H2O change, which of course always makes the skimmer produce more for the 1st couple hours. Any Suggestions? Thanks, Tim

You made sure to clean the venturi right? Maybe salt is building up in there. Also, have you changed foods or added anything to you tank perhaps? When I switched brands of food I saw a huge change in the skimmers consistency. Perhaps a pic will help too.

Well, my bad, I cleaned everything but the air intake spout. It had salt build up, drilled it out just now, seems fine now. Thanks!

No prob. Every once in a while I will pour hot DI water into the airline of my skimmer to break up the salt deposits. Works well and will buy you some extra time between servicing it.

Keep in mind that your skimmer may fill the collection cup while doing this because no air is getting into the skimmer.

Yeah, that's exactly how I do it as well.

No, I would not dare cure LR in my living room
It's just my normal reef that has been set up for a few years. Snow, you are saying to put it on top of the lid? Sort of like baking soda in the refrigerator? |

Hello all,
I just joined the club with a used ER ES5-3. I am in need of replacement parts asap. ER is not back until 1/3/08 and I need the O-Ring for the Sedra 3500 going into the skimmer body. Any suggestions as to where to get ahold of this without contacting ER? TIA, Brad |

If you have the old one, take it with you to a plumbing supply store to see if you can find a match. You might even take the pump to do a test fit while there.

I have a ER RC180 that is being fed by a Mag 3 pump. The pump is throttled down by at least 50%. So I'm using too much power and generating unnecessary heat.
In my quest to lower power consumption and reduce heat, I'm wondering if anyone tried one of the 150gph Eheim pumps to feed the Re-Circ skimmers? |
