Is anyone overdriving them. I was a MH user and figured I'd try T5's for my sps. I bought a tek 6 39watt for my 30gal. Would this be enough?

How about bulb combo? I was thinking:

3 Aqua Blue
2 Blue Plus
1 Fiji Purple

Might be too much. I'm running the same fixture over my 75 (36x24x20) and its difficult for me not to bleach everything that goes in it.

Haha, I'm sure you'll be fine, you'll just need to be extra careful when acclimating them.

Actinic
Blue+
AquaBlue Special
AquaBlue Special
Blue+
Actinic

To be fair, when the corals I got bleached I was running a bulb combo closer to 10k, I've since added the 2 Blue+ bulbs and cut the main lights down to 8 hours a day with the actinics running for 12. The corals are coloring up nicely now.

Corals can adjust to almost any lighting setup, and you can't give *most* corals too much light, so I'm sure you'll be fine. A little overkill perhaps, but thats another story.

Guys, save your self some money in the long run and go MH from the get go. JMO
Rogger-

I'd be happy to recoup some of my MH money, and sell you the 3 MH's I have in boxes now. I'm using one, on my growout tank. And once the bulb dies, it'll be T-5, too....

They're all Ice-Cap 250W Ballasts, in PFO-HQI Mini Pendants, and believe me, I'm getting better color, and growth out of my Solar-Flare.

Believe me, there's more than one way to skin a cat; and this one doesn't require an evaporative fan to keep my tank at 81F. When I get home, I'll be happy to post some pics...

Hate to say it but the Europeans are far ahead of us when it comes to Reef tanks and they MOSTLY use T5 lighting, from what I have seen. I'm still using MH lighting but wish I had just started with T5. Hard to switch when you so much money invested in MH lighting.

The grass is always greener on the other side When/if I upgrade I'll be going back to metal halides. I miss the shimmer.

What about that new fixture coming out (already taking preorders) that has LED's built into the T5 that adds shimmer?
