Hi everyone -

Appreciate any comments or suggestions...getting closer to actually setting up the tank. Here are six pics showing progress from last couple wks.

Drywall is nearly complete everywhere in the basement, including the tank area, and so is most of the electrical except for the tank area. Wiring up 3-4 quad outlets (GFI) in the tank area today.

Been awhile...couple of update pics to bump this to the top!

Bump to the top...

bar on left
tank display on right (holding tv right now):

need to install doors, bottom base, and top canopy hiding the top/lights area:

Just have to install outlets around the back area of the tank and we're almost finished...can't wait...

R/ Matt

Matt-

Your work is really impressive! I am in Waukesha also; River Place subdivision. I am putting the house up for sale next week though and moving to New Berlin.

I will be keeping an eye on your project. Do you ever pop in on the Wisconsin Reef Society forum on RC? If not, share your project with these guys. A great group with mad skills and ideas.

Jeremy

Jeremy -
Thanks!
Not too much progress on the tank itself but working on other basement things on or around the future tank area.
WRS...I should head there more...always good to meet local folks.

Tx again, Matt

Hi All -

I'm getting closer.

Q: Anyone have first-hand experience drilling an Oceanic 30g cube? Also, any best-in-class type setups for the tank/sump/ref setup w/ these cubes?

If I don't do custom drilling w/sump, etc...I'll be hanging my RemoraCPro on the back of it and going that route...

Thx, Matt

It's looking good!

I have been looking into the procedure for drilling glass. The more I read, the less scary it seems. This assumes that you are talking the side glass. The bottom is likely tempered and not drill-able.

Alternately, I have a continuous siphon overflow that is not being used if you want to run a sump but don't want to risk the tank.

Ocean in a box,
I came over to see the progress on your awesome little project (well not very little actually) and was expecting to see at least a glass box in the hole! Not a TV in the hole

Hurry up dude, the suspense is killing me.

NEW SUMP

Got a great deal (I think...it was $40) on a sump/wet-dry from a LFS in my area b/c it was old, dusty, and the young workers at the store had no idea how to hook it up and said it had been sitting around there forever..they commented that it probably shouldn't even be sold w/ missing parts, but I talked them into it.

Actually, I don't know how to hook it up yet either...I think it needs some rain trays, pump for protein skimmer, and some sort of hookup for a HUGE bulkhead that's in the bottom corner side of it.

If anyone can look at these pics and help me understand how to hook up and configure this thing that would be great...I've never had a sump setup (all HOB type skimmers, etc in the past).

Also, it has three blemishes in the acrylic; I need some advice on what # weldon (is that what it is?) and the method to repair acrylic, if any of you out there are "experts". I'm not concernced about looks, just fuctionality.

Small crack around drain tube fitting of protein skimmer cup:

Small crack at top corner:

One I'm most concerned about, bunch of small, surface, impact-looking type cracks and it's near the bottom of the sump...you may not be able to tell from the pictures, but its definately on the surface & not "through" the actual acrylic:

Here are the rest of the sump pics from different angles:

That's it for now...I'll try to keep the pics (& the progress) coming steady.

$40 is a steal; what store?

That cracking on the bottom scares me too. A little reinforcing via an acrylic sandwich might do the trick.
