I modded my ASM G-3 protein skimmer to the gate valve mod way back in May. This will be for my SPS tank. The pictures don't show the pump.

Here's before with just the riser tube. This gives minimal control of water height in the skimmer.

Here's all the parts. I got them all at Ace hardware for $20. The parts are just an elbow, tee, gate valve, and 10' of 1-1/4" pvc.

Here's the finished product. All I did was measure, cut the pipe, and fit the pieces. This mod greatly controls water height in the skimmer body and you don't need to get your hands wet to adjust it.

NanoReefWanabe, I noticed under your "current tanks" that you have 40x turnover. What are you using to achieve that?

My only projects for the time being are for the ASM.

I'll have to alter my gate valve mod to fit my sump when it comes.

Other mods I'm planning:

gutter gaurd for needle wheel impeller
recirculation mod
drilling out and beefing up the venturi hole and hose
overflow drain to feed skimmer mod
collection cup drain

Here is an ASM impeller mod done with gutter guard which is similar to the mod I'll be doing to my needlewheel impeller.

Thank you. That's just a little fence around the shop.

The rest is pasture.

Pasture and nice rolling hills. I don't know if I could find time for a reef tank if my surroundings were such

my turnover is a result of..

Aquaclear70- return pump~300gph by the time it gets back to the tank..
a koralia2 ~600GPH
a Koralia1 ~400gph
and now i no longer use my CLosed loop as it is clogged and lacking foresight i forgot to put in valves so i could remove the pump but it was 200 GPH

~1500GPH divided by 25 gallons of water= ~60X but lacking the CL and a likely a little more room for error i am down to about 45X

Did your CL go over the top or through bulkheads?

through the back of the tank...down low too...

i was going to cap the bulkheads inside the tank and remove the pump...then cut the pipes and install valves...but that is an A** load of work...i will just remember for the next tank...it would be luck too that the caps leak or fall off while i am in the kitchen cleaning the pump, and it empties my entire tank..

i am looking forward to a 48X24-36X22 tall custom starfire inwall next fall...as soon as the addition is done...not sure on the depth yet as the laundry room isnt built yet...so i dont know exactly how much room i will have...

I'm not liking this Windows Vista (two posts up). I can get photos from the camera to the desktop but not from the desktop to a post.

Okay, this is the tool I used to mod my NC6. I cut a slot through two edges so that I can get more power cords through the back of the hood. Before this I ran a bunch of cords through the feed door.

This is one of the slots I cut. Picture turned out bad. These two are the only pics I'll show as nothing else turned out.

Now to learn how to use this camera.

Not much of a FTS but this is all I got. First time I've cleaned tank in weeks. Now that all the cords are hidden and a dose of elbow grease on the glass, I decided to try a FTS.

Wannabee what you could do just in case, is to cap it or plug it, then take an L shaped tube higher than the tank, and install it tempiorarily, that way itll stay safe, and if the plug falls out your still safe.

Good idea, just prop the L-tube up so it doesn't slide down.

BTW, the nano koralia came in by ups today.

Does anyone know if Wal-Mart carries a decent tripod at a reasonable price?

Okay, gregr is helping me with my photography skills. He said this picture's blurriness is either from camera shake or the auto-focus was hunting while the picture was being taken [the focus shifted].

Well, hopefully I'll eliminate the question of camera shake because I shelled out twenty bucks for a tripod.
