hey thanks everyone, this is the reason I like doing this. To answer your question on the bulbs. I am actually running 20K radiums 250w bulbs on a galaxy ballast inside a luminarc Mini reflector.

I am totally impressed. I realize that lighting is only one aspect and obviously you have the rest of the requirements nailed as well...low nutrients, flow, etc. But still, those 250 watt radiums are doing better than I would imagine. I tried a 250 watt Helios 20K on my Coralvue e-ballast and Luminarc mini and it looked like crap--way too blue and not bright at all. Do you think the Galaxy ballasts are above average for output?

well I never used the coralvue ballast so cant comment but I think the galaxy ballast is one of the greatest ballast I have owned in my 4 years of reefing. I have used them all.

I think in regards to the radiums, the galaxy will run at about 270-275 which is what they are rated at. So you are not underdriving them like with the icecap or overdriving them with the HQI and you get a longer life on them. On the vho and t5 set up, I dont use any at all. I use to run them when I had the the hqi but stoped about 6months
