How long before the toadstool becomes all like 'fluffy' and stuff for lack of a better word? It got all 'un-fluffy' from the transport.

Did you acclimate it before you put it into your tank?
Show us a picture of it.

Leathers are known to do that and will do that for no reason here and there. Sometimes, mine is all fuzzy and then other times it "sheds" and within a couple of days is all fuzzy again.

I was trying to joke about the hold tank being gone so you'd need to console yourself with a couple new purchases. I guess I need to keep working on my sense of humor.

I have a big diatom problem. I think it's probably feeding off the nitrates because they are rather high. I'm doing my water changes... 16 gallons in 2 days (out of 20 gallons total) but they won't budge. Any ideas?

Here's the params:

Ammo- .2
-ites- 0
-ates- 15
pH- 8.2/3
Calcium- 490 (a little high, right?)

And Pat, this came with the rock I'm assuming... what is it? Some type of crab obviously, I know that much

That's a porcelin crab. They are filter feeders and are one of the few good crabs!

Billy, for your diatoms just use a turkey baster on the sand to blow it around. Don't forget to blast your rocks too. I wouldn't worry about diatoms at all. It's all part of the process. It will go away on it's own.
I bought a decorator crab on Tues. and haven't seen it since. Is that normal? I hope not because he was so cool with all these little orange and blue sponges on him. Just before he disappeared he helped himself to 1 of my brown polyps.

Nice TV!!

But, could the diatoms be feeding off my nitrates?

Billy, when you were here, you said you needed more flow in the tank. Not having enough flow could be why you're seeing the brown all over the sand. Also, do you use a protein skimmer? What type of water are you using in the tank?

Right now I have about 390 GPH going, about 20x turnover. I do have a protein skimmer, it's a BakPak. I'm not using RO/DI water. There is nowhere to hook it up at my house. I am using a tap water filter, I know it's not great, but it's batter than tap. So, it could be the water now that you mentioned it, I didn't even think of that.

phosban reactor

Brett and I just picked up a phosban reactor. Has anyone seen any difference in their corals during the first week or so of it's use? The lfs said to use only 1/2 the phosphate stuff at first as it might cause bleaching of the corals.

We also picked up our final fish, a red-spotted hawkfish. He's too cute!!! We'll get some pictures of Hawkeye and Neo (the yellowhead wrasse) as soon as I can convince Brett to take them. He's better with the camera than I am.

We put our phosban reactor in so early in the life of the tank, that we noticed no difference. I don't think we had any corals in there except what came with the TBS.
Congrats on your new fish. Let's see a picture of it.
