I found a very small white montipora eating nudibranch on green cap today. He almost went unseen but I happened too notice it. This is a cap that has been in quarantine for 6 weeks and was doing fine untill yesterday. I noticed tissue loss yesterday and by today most of the colony was dead. This thing was small!!! and did some real damage.I dug it off the cap with a dentist tool and witnessed it come to life in a clear plastic cup. This thing is only an 1/8" big and looks like any nudibranch with extended polyp type fingers and was moving all around in the cup. I tried pics but they were blurry.

H20ENG: your idea about HRVs sounds me useful for me too because i have a similar problem with moisture in my prop garage, so I’m gonna try to find this equipment where i live. Abut covering tanks to slow evap and prevent evaporation as you suggest i think that this solution will not allow gas exchanges (CO2 versus O2) to take place. This is only my opinion.
Redox: about your Montipora Nudibranch problem I'm concerned about you. I suggest you to remove Montis from the tank, as soon as possible, because Nudis reproduce fast. Make a chemical treatment (dipping) with levamisole. Check the way to do it. I suggest you to add one Halichoeres Melanurus, this fish will help you to control Nudis in the future.

thank you Machado I will look for a Hovens wrasse not sure of their availability but I will look. The only problem I have with this fish is the fact that I have no sand bottom and no way too keep it from jumping out. Any suggestions about how to make a good home for this fish in my situation?

Redox,
Glad this was still in QT!

Machado,
I think if you run a skimmer and sump, that there is still enough gas exchange. If it was just a tub with no other aeration, then I would not recommend it.

I also think HRVs are a great addition, though pricey. For some, they are the only way to prevent mold and rot, and therefore worth every penny!

I hope I can hold this together through another winter. I will keep the ventilation fan gowing through winter too reduce humidity. There is a very fine line between humidity removal and interior temps

Hey redox! Nice looking greenhouse.

What brand of Polycarbonate panels are those and what style are they? Like just Corrugated?

I was looking at these...any cheaper places?

hello Jared those panels you link arent quite like mine. I got mine from farmtek.com. The panels I used are double wall and I think only come in 4'x8' panels. The double wall helps for insulation

redox, you realize that the clams don't have to be in close proximity to spawn, right?

H.a.Z I have tried that but most of the sand spills out from the current and causes problems elsewhere. The fish jump out and that is the main problem. I have lost some really nice fish that way.I am no way proud of this. The cromis dont kill each other the looser jumps out. It is always a big one that I find on the floor. I really need to take the time to make a .... thing to stop this

kaptken I havent seen that sight but it looks like there are alot too choose from. I accidentally dropped some small drops of latex paint in my sps vat and it dang near wiped out one of my acros. It is the one I refer as" the weed". I did make a bunch of frags and was able to save some . The mother colony seems to be stabilizing for now .[IMG][/IMG]
