In Canada this problem is solved with an air to air heat exchanger. For a 2,500 sq ft. private indoor pool cost was about $2,000. Basically incoming air [ minus 50 C ] comes in thru abaffle/tube system that is surrounded in a box of baffled outgoing air allowing the exhaust heat to transfer to incoming air.
Another method for just removing humidity without air exchange a silica jel that is very cheap in 100 pound bags that absorbs water/humidity. [used in small sachets in electronics] The crystals absorb water and it wil in fact drip out of the bottom of the sack to be disposed of [donot use for anything] |

hey crazzy thanks for the input but it sounds like you are talking about an ERV. What is the technical name for what you are describing?

HRVs, Heat Recovery Ventilators, transfer the sensible heat from the outgoing air to the incoming air (well, in the winter time anyway, heat will always flow from warm to cold) and would serve you well, since the cold outdoor air holds WAY less moisture than your warm air.
ERVs, or Energy Recovery Ventilators, transfer both sensible and latent (moisture) across the wheel or plates, which you would NOT want, as you want dry air. I think even in the summer your GH air will still be equal to or higher RH than the outside. So with the HRV, you will help get rid of some humidity while not losing all of your heat (some though). Catch 22 is that the dryer air in the GH will now be able to absorb much more evaporation and you may be topping off more often. Do you ever tarp the tanks with clear poly to slow evap? I'm sure you have plenty of aeration with the skimmer, sumps, and O3. Covering the water does loads to prevent evaporation.

hey Chris do you know anything about crv's? Cash recovery ventilators , thats what I really need So your saying an HRV is what would work the best. I didnt know there were different types of ventilators ,just thought it was different manufactuers calling it something else.

Looking good Redox! Hey, I bought one of those 300's from Greg. Now I can't wait to build a house and stick that sucker in the wall. You should go try to talk him out of those 500's he has sitting by his garage.

maybe they will last longer than his corals. Bought 3 there several weeks ago and only one is still with me. I watched the others fade away. Its funny how I can get stuff shipped all the way from timbucktoo and have no problems but go 40milles up the road and......get death on a stick

Very inspirational thread Redox!
I’m building a sort of part shed part greenhouse here in the UK but the winter arriving before I’ve gotten the roof on had kind of killed my enthusiasm until I had a look through this thread, thanks. I’m not sure but maybe this link may shed some light on your unknown anemone http://nhm.ku.edu/inverts/adorian/actinodendronidae.htm |

thanks mountaindew and it does,I sit there for hours sometimes. The more you look the more I seem to find new things showing up here and there. 2.5 years of the gh,man time flies. Ive got some crazy coraline platelets growing on the vats. It seems that the summer sun burns it out a little, but in the fall/winter months the coraline goes crazy. Im sure its due to the different intensity of the sun
