Sorry. I was looking at the wrong item. I thought those are Tube coral but I'm only guessing. I have some strange coral that is really small and I can't get a good picture of. I'd really like to figure out what it is. Just need to figure out a way to get a better shot.

Hey all, I just found this little hitchiker tonight... a little hermit with coloring I've never seen before! This guy is about the size of a pea.

Rock looks great Brian.
So my wife and I were sitting and watching the tank tonight when......
It sounded like someone was trying to ignite a BBQ in our tank. This is not a good sign is it? Clicking can only mean one thing right?
Well, burgers and dogs for anyone that wants to come over.

Eric, the clicking can also mean pistol shrimp...so don't go getting paranoid just yet.
I have at least 2 dozen pistols in my tank, and not one mantis.

Kevin, that's a cool hermit. It's amazing how you start seeing these things isn't it? I always am amazed that the critters hide out so well...because I looked for them before the rock went into the tank.

as for the tube coral - that's Cladocora arbuscula.

Brian - Shealynn Elizabeth is such a cutie. My kid had gloves on her hands very early too.

Hmmm...I'm always falling behind...been busy making new saltwater. Maintenance fun!...sigh.

Nirol- I think that would have scared me too!

Pat- Unfortunately it was a mantis. I say "was" because the problem has been solved.

How did you get it Eric?

Nirol....isn't that just some cup coral? I can see where you'd get startled by it. Nice picture!

It looks like the typical TBS anemone. We all have them but they don't spread...only grow. Richard calls them curly cues.

Your tank looks great though. I can see where you're upset with all the bubbles. Hopefully within the next week or 2 they'll slow down. If they don't, and you really want to get rid of them, we'll have to give you a link about how you can plumb the tank so there's no bubbles and its silent. Nirol, Dennis and myself have done this to our tanks and we're very happy with it.

Whatever they are, they gross me out. When I opened one of the boxes, one was crawling on the styrofoam, and I thought it was a roach so I brought the box outside and carried the rock in one by one.

Pat that is an amphipod they are good guys!

That's what I thought it was...but they still gross me out. There are lots of them, and they're even crawling out of the water from the teeth on the overflow. I get all ichy thinking they're baby roaches or something. They don't look nice.
That's the only life I see from the new rock. I wasn't expecting to see any being it's not the TBS.
I do have to say the rock is a lot nicer than I thought it would be though.

No, I'm just going to stick with this thread. But here's a picture. Cloudy because of sand storm and me keep re-arranging rocks.

i like you scape a bunch

did you get the tunze going - how is it doing - I have seen numerous reponses by roger (texas tunze dude) who has said repeatly - if you have a sand storm, you should clean the sand out of the tunze

It's a sand storm, but not a sand storm. I never rinsed the sand, which I probably should have done.....so it's like silt right now.
I see on the opposite side of the tank than the Tunze, there is a hill now on the sand from the stream. I still have to figure out all the settings and see what's best for the tank.
I do see pods all over the glass already.

I see - sort of a very fine silty stuff maybe you should run the water thru an ultra fine filter to give it a polish as if you rinsed it good before putting in (a one time thing)

Yes, thank you!
No, I'm going to stick to this thread. Just because I got "other" rock, doesn't mean I dislike TBS rock. I love it. I'm very impressed with the new rock, and it is really nice....
I don't think you can get any rock that looks like TBS. It's really not fair to compare the two. They're totally different animals.
I'm really glad I am able to have both type rocks and still say that TBS is the best looking rock around when you first purchase it.

let the return empty into a very fine something if you have a fine fine filter sock, or something - I wonder if regular floss doubled up, etc would help - i am not sure how that stuff is going to magically disappear otherwise - it may - sink down into the bed, etc - i just know you are frustrated about it

I'm thinking once the sand bed builds up enough bacteria, it will settle down. Also, If would keep my hands out of the tank, it might settle down too.
I guess I can try a stocking on the end of the return or drain?
