Mark thanks for the help. It was missing the pipe going into the body. Should have a new one by Wed. ER contacted in under 24 hr. I wish the pipe was packed, so I did not have to wait. That back pipe was an air flow restrictor.

I can't find the CS6-1 gate valve mod thread from searching. Anyone know where to find instructions on this mod?

Hey i just got an RS5-2 and its on my 60 cube. I know that they are older models, but am looking for a way to get foam that is more dry.

Is a gate valve mod the way to go? What else can you do?

thanks,

I hope its cool to just throw stuff out on this thread...

I have a 5-3, and the gate valve mod (mine is diy) is a huge advantage to controlling the foam type. Worth the $20

Just a couple questions as I just got my RS100:

What is the little tube with the 2 pins sticking out of it for?

What sort of water depth should I run the skimmer in the sump?

an aquabee 2000/1 would be fine as a replacement, as would a eheim 1250, but you would have to mod the eheim yourself..as this member did for his rs80:

http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...readid=1165814

and you can get the aquabee 2000/1 w needle wheel a little cheaper than that from DAS

http://stores.petorama.net/Categorie...ilters%3APumps

or you can wait for ER to release their version of the 1250.
or buy the european 1255 (1250 n.w. )and run it on a transformer:

pic of the 1255

Has ER ever considered making an auto-wash down system for any of their larger skimmers? Has anyone ever published a DIY mod.

I'm considering an ER-1000, but would like an auto wash-down.

euro recommends 1x the system volume or 1.5 max so i would recommed the eheim 1048 or the 1046 if you want to get closer to your 1x the head pressure on the eheim is awesome

what is the gph of the pump your talking about

i run a maxijet 1200 on mine

eagleONE,
In order for the skimmer to work at peak efficacy, it must be in 6 to 8 inches of water. (note: 80, 5-2, 5-3 models tend to work better in 5 to 7 inches)
Some people need to put the skimmer on a platform in order to achieve this level due to the sump configuration they have.

I hope this helped to answer your question.

i think it depends on the skimmer cup size.

i drilled from the bottom on my old skimmer and stuck 1/4" line tubing (rodi water line) worked great.

but if the skimmer goes nuts it can fill a 5 gallon jug quick LOL..

thats what happened to me on few occasions so i just opted to empty as often as i could..

After going from a TurboFlotor 1000 (which I really liked) to a CSS220 (which was okay), I'm now an owner of the RS250.

Can't wait to get it running in the next couple of days.
