Just so you guys know, Aquatica in Garner is closed on Mondays. You might call Neil at 919-661-7790 and let him know your coming.

I stopped by the new place in Durham (Aquatic Concepts) yesterday. I got to agree with the others, it is a good looking store and once they get the corals going it should be one of the better shops in the area.

define "it"..

"it" being the area in general, it's cool. - but hot.
"it" being the LFS situation, it's lame.
"it" being the fact that I'm living in a 2 bedroom apartment with my wife and 4 kids until my actual house closes, it's stressful.
"it" being I don't actually have a fishtank - it's at a friends house, it's depressing.

Hey ncsugrad04, we met yesterday at Aquatic Concepts. I'm probably gonna head down there again tonight to see if they got the "ricordia shipment" they've been hoping to get. They seem like some pretty good guys, I've been really picking their brains over the past week to see how much they know and see what some of their prices are compared to other LFS in the area. They seem reasonable on most of their prices. I really hope they start carrying a large selection of corals, we really need another LFS that does. Aqua Escape is probably the best as far as selection goes. Triangle Tropical is okay but their corals don't usually look too great. Fish World, usually if you don't get a coral within a few days of it arriving in the store they start looking kinda bad. Fish Pros doesn't usually have much of a selection either.

I can go on about some of these places but it'll take a while. If you're kinda new into this hobby you'll learn which LFS to buy from and which not to. One of the key things I do is I like to buy corals from other local hobbyist tanks. This way you can see the coral in its best condition find out some of the history of the coral and really get a good price compared to a LFS. This is how I got most of the corals I have now.

Hey Dave, hope that they did get that shipment in. They do seem like really nice people, their peperment shrimp were on the high side by a couple of bucks, but it is cool that they have a discount for college students and will match prices from other stores.....which is alteast what Tin told me. I've always looked at multiple stores for corals to see who has the best deal before I've ever bought a single one. I do really like how they've set things up over there, and I agree we do need some play with a good coral selection. I like that quarantine their fish, before selling them. Once they get it all finished I think that it will be one of the nicer stores in the area by far. I plan on buying mostly frags from people for my sps tank, maybe a few colonies once I know that the frags are doing well, especially since it is my first run at sps, and I don't want to have a big crash right off the bat. Most of the corals I have know are ones that I've bought off of fellow reefers who were taking down their tanks, so I agree, plus usually they aren't out to screw you over too. Let me know how that shipment is.

Dan

Aquatic Concepts got their shipment of Florida Ricordias and man did they get a bunch. I think Tin told me like 50 pieces or so. Nice ones too, pinks, oranges, greens, and blues. So if anyones looking for some they've got plenty.

I have a few montis, a green slimer, and a large hydnophra (not a frag) I was considering selling. The hydnophora is advertised in this forum already.

Hey Everyone,
I know a lot of you NC people are at the MASOTC meeting today, but I wanted to give an update on the experience I had with the Aquarium Center this morning. I talked to Chris and it sounds like he is willing to deal a little bit better than most. I know I had mentioned earlier in my post about some issues I had, but I just didn't feel right about bringing that out in the open, plus people deserve second chances.

Chris is not or at least I think was not part of that issue, but regardless its time to move on. Anyway here is the deal.

I asked him if he would match prices on dry goods etc if compared to online e-tailers and he said that they would try there best and come as close as possible. SO THERE is hope yet!!! Woohoo!

Also I think that they can get just about anything you want. You just have to ask.

Also if any of you are feeding cyclop-eeze he has it both in frozen and freeze-dried. Prices were very comparable to those at Marine Depot.

Just wanted to fill everyone in.

Thanks for listening again,
Bill

just tried it.

Definitely the best selection of coral in Greenville, unfortunately that's not saying much. Sorry guys - we gotta get a reef club going if we're gonna have any hope.

Today has been a day long trip to the candy store. So much cool stuff, with the MASOTC meeting, and then hitting up some LFSs in Raleigh. Went to Aqua Escape, and I was wowed by thier stuff. Some if the stuff is on the high side, but they are usually pretty nice pieces. I got a frag for a very sweet monty. White with neon green polyps. Can't wait for it to grow out some, plus all of the other really cool stuff that I got from Chad....thanks again, and free frags :-) Too much fun!!!! Can't wait until the next meeting, when I'll actually have something to trade. I'll try and post pics of the monti as soon as it grows a bit :-D
