does anyone have suggestions on how to lower the noise of this pump?
voyager i have to admit the 4100 is a loud pump

you can use a 35mm film container and muffle some of the sound if its air your hearing but i think the pumps are loud in general.

Its just BUZZ from the motor.
I've just partially enclosed the back of the stand to see if that will help reduce some of the noise bouncing back from the wall.

I just bought a RS135. What should be it's max. water level? Aside from the black o-ring, what's the other white o-ring for?

The WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) is pretty low (2.0 on a 10 scale) with the current amount of noise eminating from my euroreef.

Is anyone aware of quiet pumps that can be substitiuted for use on the RS180?

By the way: How would everyone feel about Euro-Reef having its own forum again?

Agreed! An ER forum would be great!

Ok - now to my question.

We recently got a RC180 for use on our 150 gal tank.
I'm using a Mag 3 pump that is dialed back over 50%.
What size feed pump works best for this skimmer?
I was thinking a Eheim 1048 at 158 gph with no valve?
I know the book says 1 - 1.5 volume - I'm curious to see what others are running.

Or at the very least, a ER FAQ page that people could refer to online.

Fuzzy, do you have a picture of the RC180? All the stock photos on the ER website are RC250.

Just thought I'd update, my tank has been up and running for a week and a half, with just rock and sand. And my RS-80 is pulling out a lot of brown smelly skimmate!
I really I'm happy with the skimmer, it took about 2 days before it really started working, but now it's running great. And I was worried about noise, but it's really quiet, my overflow makes more noise.

rs 180

i have one had the same problem check impeller i had problems there i tried 3 and got so fed up and bought the eheim replacement pump for it and noise is not a problem they are repairing the other i hope and i will use it as a spear. I have to say i bought one of the best so i would not have problems like this and have not been very impressed. The instruction were incomplete for novice like myself. But customer service has been pretty good but i have had to pay for some of the shipping. This is my first skimmer of this type

I had aquc remora on a 75g before.

Overall i happy now but $450 skimmer turned into a $600
It came missing a part and loud as heel b/c impeller was screwed I believe.

I think this has been a problem on this model for a while i have heard others complain.

One other thing I think the overall quality of aquarium products as whole sucks. ( not referring to eroreef)

Alex007: 90 gal I think. I have the same kind I think.

Question: If I mod my skimmer to be recirculating does that hinder the performance of the skimmer? And I've seen some pictures, but how do you add the elbows inside the body with just the hole?

Jay

ER Forum. Oh Yeah, and hopefully this time it's for the long haul, even though there will be the good, the bad & the ugly. I am a long time ER user and I personally would be very proud of ER for returning their forum to RC. Very wise move. Happy Reefkeeping...

Sorry I don't.
I'll try to take one in my sump - no idea how it will look - as it's a tight fit!

Anyone do a Recirc Mod on a SP4 = GEN-X 4100

I'm looking to do this mod this weekend on my RS180 and just wanted to see if others have done it and how they liked it, etc...

I know the RC180's come with the Eheim pump, I'm assuming because it's queiter, etc... But any help I could get would be appreciate. I don't really want to spend $260 on the Eheim if it's not necessary...

Thanks!
