This is roughly a 10 -20 second process over and over.
Sounds like the pump is cavitating to me. Try restricting the airline a little. Like Roland said, the silencer may help a bit.

My silencer does not help on my 20 SCFH skimmer any more ether. I had to restrict the air intake even more with my flow meter valve to get good foam production (mine you I have a every light bioload.) but on my stock NW200 skimmer the silencer makes a big difference. Like I said earlier if I disconnect them, my head of foam falls right away. Why the resection works on some skimmer and make no difference on others, well? If I tell my theory you have to promise not to laugh. Ahh forget it I can’t even say it. Just try it if it works great. If not you have not you haven't lost anything.

I would like some pics. of these mods. you guys are doing to your 200nw's. I'm waiting on mine to get here. I'm doing the gate valve mod. right out the box. But if these other modx. your talking about will make the skimmer perform better I'd like to check it out.

Roland, what does your silencer look like and how do you attach it? I would imagine it goes on the end of the airline tube but I don't see how I would attach it. My skimmer came with 2 venturies, another small intake piece which I imagine is the silencer, and about 6 gaskets. I don't see anything that lets me attach wht looks to be the silencer.

Is that the venturi that came with your skimmer? The end of it is tapered, mine is not. Did you mod it?

Yes my venturies look nothing like that, I would say they are a good 4 inches long. I'm not home to look at my parts but if that is what the silencer looks like mine is nothing like it either. I'm thinking maybe it is for the output of the pump if you were going to hook a hose up to it. I'll try and get a few pics on here later

that is the way it came tapperd on one end flat on the back side. i actually smothed out the tapper on my modifide skimmer.

i think rich's is different than mine also. because i dont think i can run a 1/4" or a .23" drill bit in my venture hole without i going thru the sidewall. the inside Diameter of my venture is .58". what id is yours?

Roland, mine is the same as yours. When I ran 1/4" all the way through, it did go partially through the internal wall. I just put some superglue in there to seal it back up. Like I said, mine is a MESS. It runs pretty well though.

I just got mine today and it has the 90 elbow and I was wondering if I could just drill a big hole in the opposite side of the hole that on the elbow. I cant find out what size the elbow is to replace it with a tee.

My Reef Octopus NW150 has been running for a couple weeks now. Just want to know if the performance is on par with what you guys are getting. I find I need to empty it out every 3 days, new crud doesn't make it into the cup after that unless I clean it out. Below are pics of what it looks like after 2-3 days.

That's ugly stuff Rekonn! Mine is more green/black in colour -- what do you have in your tank that makes it that brown/red colour? Cleaning every 3 days seems to be the norm with this type of skimmer -- sometimes clean after 2 days.

Look like you are skimming on a tank with diatom bloom.

I think the lighting in my bathroom makes it look more red. The pic above is of the same thing, but it looks greener there. The tank has been up and running for over 6 months. I had the expected diatom bloom at the beginning, but not since. Right now in my tank I have:

coral beauty
black cap basslet
pair of oscellaris clownfish
yellow tail damsel
3 hermit crabs
2 tubo snails
6 cerith snails
few small corals (candy cane, hammer, gsp, kenya tree, stylophora, etc...)

I'm planning to add about 100 more snails from a local group buy, that should help with the algae I need to clean off the glass. Maybe the skimmate will look different then.

What is the best way to adjust the water level? My skimmer is a recirc 150, and i am finding it is really hard to "fine tune" it. Where is the best place to put the water level?

My airsilencer just fell off when i was fiddling with the skimme, and now the skimmer is making a loud sucking noise and bubbles have increased greatly (much bigger bubbles) causing it to practicall overflow
What can i do?

when i turn the pump off, the air tubing fills with water, and then blow it out but it doesn't change the situation
