Hey I have seen the list of clown fish but I have just bought a pair of "naked perculas" They are just palin range with black lining on all the fins. How come I can not find any info on them? Are they rare or just not encouraged because they are mutants so to speak. Any help on this one. I am wondering if I bought a good thing (hard to find) or bad thing (no one wants/hard to find)

I think what you have is actually an A. ocellaris or "False Percula" w/out stripes. Not a True Percula.

blessings,
I would take oama's opinion on the identification to heart, there are few around with his first hand knowledge of captive clownfish breeding. While "naked percula" are not a rare species of clown, the markings or in this case lack there of, are unusual for the species A. ocellaris. Enjoy them, you won't see many out there.

well this is what i have found out from the people who sell them. They are perculas and it is just a genetic mutation which happens in every 1 out of 20,000. they are becoming poplular BUT those that sell them usually limit the buyers to a certain number the people that I talked to limit each store to 2 per store but then they called back and had to tell most stores that ordered them that they would not be available. They are captive bred fish but not easy to come by, so woth that they had to tell many that reserved their two that they would not be available to them this time!!! Well, thanks all for your help it is greatly appreciated.

I would suspect ORA is the source and they are not perculas, they are A. ocellaris. Click on the link to Mis-Bar False Percula Clownfish and you will see a specimen that is quite close although this one has the head stripe.
http://www.orafarm.com/clownfish_species.html I would suspect that a Local Fish Store can get on a list for such specimens, but only for a few at a time to spread the opportunity. That is strictly my assumption, but it might be worth checking with your LFS and seeing if they can get some for you. Patience in this sort of hunt is typically rewarded. Cheers. fwiw: oama is quite familiar with Oceans Reefs & Aquariums ;>)

They are Limited.
They are Ocellaris, aka "False Percula". They are Captive Bred. They are not, however, mutations. There is no "Reserve List". As they become availible, they are sold, first come first serve.

My lfs that buys from ORA has a tankfull, retailing at $45. When I say "tankfull" I didn't count but I'm sure there are a dozen or more. When I first walked by & just got a corner-of-the-eye glimpse I got excited thinking they had panda gobies

well that looks sorta like my fish except there are no bars and the bodies are duted with darker shades of orangish-black throughout the body where the bars would be. the only yellowish color on them is thier faces and on one of them the 1st top fin is not lined with black. the black lining around the fins is rather thick but I dont know I still havent seen anything like them and either way I love them because nobody has any like them!!! By the way I just bought a bubble anenome and they wont enter it any reasons why?

Uh, you mean other than the fact that a bta is not a natural host for ocelleris? Actually my customers experience has been that many/ most do take to them but in theory that is an exception rather than a rule.

well I know that but I had a friend who had a beautiful bubble tip and her clown used it and her damsel did to after her clowns had passed. The store that I actually got it from said that it should work. My choices are bubble tip, sebae, and condi & the condi doesnt take them since they are carribean. Store selection round here is slim so either they didnt have anything or they didnt have anything that looked healthy enough to put in my tank or there was this. I have a condi but I had him before I got the clowns and didnt have the heart to get rid of my Condi! He is so healthy and gorgeous!!!! I love him. So I just got the bubble tip to provide for my clowns!
