For people who don't know what the RC-500 skimmer looks like:

That's 12 inch diameter acrylic and 30 inches tall. Holds about 9 gallons of water. I'll be removing the ball valve and replacing with a gate valve.

This is a Pink Birds Nest (Seriatopora hystrix) with purple polyps I picked up at our August Reef Club meeting. These pictures were taken about 3 weeks after it was added to the display. All branch stubs are new growth in 3 weeks. This was a smooth Y shape frag when I mounted it.

And from above:

Me too! It should ship on Monday. I pray it arrives in one piece. It's being mailed US Postal Service. I don't see how they can possibly stuff it in my mail box.

Sorry to hear about your grandma. Hope the trip to Europe went smooth.

I'm doing fine now on temperatures since summer is over. It was in the lower 40's last night. Drawing in that cool air really keeps tank temperature in check. The tank has been doing about 81 to 83 with lights on.

I won't know for sure if the problem is solved until next summer.

This is a porites I purchased when it was dark brown at a recent frag swap. This picture is from last month and it shows the color change to a nice mustard yellow color. It is currently a green color (need to take an updated picture).

That skimmer looks dangerous! I run two ER's in sump and haven't really looked at the new RC models. How are you planning to run water into the skimmer?

Initial plan is gravity feed from the overflow chamber.

I feel strange making plumbing recommendations to Mr Durso, but this may help if you haven't set up an overflow fed skimmer before. This diagram (not mine) explains the setup pretty well.

Thanks for the drawing. Pretty close to what I had in mind, except I was going to have the gate on the skimmer exit not on the entrance.

I wasn't expecting any gurgling and surging, it that typically expected?

Well, you know what happens when you run a Durso standpipe. I assume you are, LOL. Air comes down the plumbing with the water. You want to give the air an "easy exit" out the leg of the T. You want as little air as possible going to the skimmer. Some air is fine, just not large disruptive bubbles. Every setup is different, so its hard to say how yours will run. This drawing comes from the Deltec forum. All Deltec AP skimmers are recirc, and this is the way most people plumb them.

Is the skimmer here yet, or did the holiday delay its arrival?

Actually I had my hand in the tank cleaning the front glass -- that's enough for the feeding tentacles to come out on most of my corals. Weird, I know. My corals must like Italian food.
