Drill Bits for pipe

Hey folks,

I was wondering what any of you use to drill into PVC? I was drilling and fitting some .5" the other night and it was a major PITA to get the right holes for the fittings I wanted to use. Either the sched. 40 fittings (slip) are odd diam. or they require an uncommon bit size. Anyone have any good FAQ plumbing info sites? Thanks in advance.

PS do any of you use pvc glue on threaded connections?
