tomato clowns

I was wondering if a juvenile tomato clown can change sex twice or do they stay at what they chose.

Can go from Juvenile to Male to Female, but once it is female, can not go back.

It's not so much a choice as just a natural progression. In nature juveniles will turn into males, and if there's no dominant female around the most dominant male will become the dominant female.

In our tanks, almost always we only have two clowns, so we usually just have a male and a female.

thanks, I was wondering if my two tomato clowns are male and female. I had a larger one in my tank for about a week and today I added a little guy hoping they might pair up but it doesn't seem like the larger one is wanting the smaller one there.

Zach,
Give it some time. As long as your larger one isn't actually injuring your little juvi they should be okay. Sometimes the pairing rituals take a while. Look for the smaller one to kind of shake or vibrate in front of the larger one's aggressions...that's a good sign that they're starting to establish dominance/gender assignments. Good luck!

Hey zach, what does "BUMP" mean. I see it every so often, just curious.
