I've tried the manual white balance and I can't get the colors to look right...maybe it's combination of my lighting and the background I'm setting it to. The AWB works the best for me.

In that particular picture, the coral was about 8 inches from the end of the lens. I try to get as close to the tank glass as possible, assuming the subject is within the focal range of the lense.

glaudds, i tried the same thing with the white balance tonight and here's what i got... the rics turned out okay, but the rest didn't look nice at all. The rics are with custom white balancing and the rest I think I used daylight or AWB.

if you like i can show you what my 200.00 cannon powershot with new 52 macro lense to compare. i to still am tweaking with the white balance but the underwater mode works ok. i just don't want to hijack you. your pics are better too.=)

here are two pictures of some acans that came out ok. as you see i am still fighting with the white balance. need to put camera on a tripod. i am too shakey. these were top down with water off and not photo box. the pictures i did not edit as well it seems that colors drift everytime i try.

taken from a cannon sd540powershot with lense adapter and macro lense(52MM)


i am much happier with my camera with the lense. i figure i need to learn some more about photography before i step up with a real camera

CW - the macro is an awesome lense, i was never able to get this close with a point and shoot camera. Its worth it IMO.

Great info! Ive had the same camera for a couple months now and while I feel like I take decent pics with it, your info has made them better.

This is my favorite piece. Before I adjusted the "F" I couldnt get really close with the lens that I had. I could only get a small part to focus.


Now I adjusted the F and it looks much better.


I just need to get a tri-pod now.

for the second pic what do your have you shutterspeed at ? or do you have it on AV mode?

you guys should not really need a tripod because MH is like daylight. If you open up the aperture and use a lower ISO this should work.

I only use tripods if its a low low low light picture and the shutter need too be open longer. you can't hold the camera for longer shutterspeed shots because you will get camera shake.

With my samsung NV10 I get blurred shots because I can't set any shutterspeeds setting or aperture lol and the flow of the tank creates action shots which I can't really get with my camera ( hence making it blurred lol) .its just a point in shoot camera but the light from the tank is bright enough.

ISO of 400 is like for an overcast day try a lower ISO and open your F stop to the lowest it can go. you might be able to leave it at 400 if you didn't set the F stop to the lowest. But just try that and see what happens.

LOL sorry for not explaining it right. for aperture the numbers are reverse the lower numbers like 4.0 is when the aperture is opened all the way ( more light) . this is why your picture is blurred and dark. open it to 4.0 . F stop 29 is i when the aperture ( the hole) like a pin hole barely any light is coming in ( less light) . f 20 is not enough light.

the ISO is bascially the film speed ( im old school lol) with digital cameras you have the pleasure of not worrying about film speeds etc.. because you can change it with on dial.

ISO 100-400 is like taking pictures outside I would not buy a film with a ISO of 800 or 1600 to take pictures in daylight , you will have so much Saturation and a grainy look everything will be too bright and colors would be off. vice versa I would not use ISO 100 for night shots nothing would come out really but blurred objects. I have used ISO 400 film on accident in daylight and it was nasty lol , and I used ISO 100 film on overcast days and the images where too dark.

With the ISO at 100 or 200 the camera takes too long to take the pic and they come out blurry.
The best looking pic was with an ISO of 1600 and the F stop at 29.

when you had ISO at 100-200 or even 400 did you change the f stop ?

Its hard to explain it online lol you have to give me all setting specs so I can see whats going wrong I need ISO F and shutterspeed and what setting you have it on M or any other dials settings

What kind of bulbs do you have on your tank ? i should have asked you thats also Do Oh

Maybe it's my pre-parkinson's state...but I can never get a sharp picture with the macro lense without a tripod....I'm shaking too much!!

With my Canon G6, however, I can usually get some decent shots hand held.
