Not really. Everything you see pictured is part of the drain side. It doesn't effect the return flow. There is always someplace for the drains to flow into the sump in case something gets plugged up. The return is through 1 1/4" PVC from a Pan World 50PX-X. Even that is partially restricted on the output side of the pump, but not much. I don't subscribe to the near 1,000 + gph flow through the sump school of thinking. With a more reasonable flow through the sump, I can have most of the water from the drains flow through the skimmer. Lower flow means a quieter system and less watts used. My in-tank circulation is via a pair of Vortechs. I've been quite happy with this setup.
