Good or Bad Bristle?
I moved my Zo rock and found this guy hiding inside the rock. He's about 4" long. I know he's a Bristle worm and I know they are not all bad. I was kinda worried that out of all the LR (120lbs) he picks one of the few coral rocks in the whole tank to hang out in.
I took him out for now. Untill I know for sure he's not going eat the goods. ![]() |

Looks like the type of bristleworm I have in my tank. I think they are safe, I haven't had any problems in my tank at all...
I can be wrong here, someone with more experience might help you out more.. |

Tie,
Can you post a picture of its 'face?' It is a type of polychaete worm. It is very likely to be harmful to corals and other sessile invertebrates. You might want to check this out. http://biodiversity.uno.edu/~worms/taxonomy.html Kevin

as kmk2307 mentioned if you can post a pic of the head, it will help identify it, but from the coloration, it doesn't look like a bad one, most are scavengers, and do a good job helping to keep your tank clean. very few will attack anything.
there are natural predators that you can buy to keep if the population in check if you so choose. |

I'd get rid of that thing immediatley. I had one of those that hitched on some liverock. Mine was 12 inches and ate about $100 dollars worth of coral, mostly zos before I caught him . I've got a picture but can't attach it because it's too big but if you PM me with your email adress I'll send it to you. Also if you have Eric Borneman's book - Coral, there is a picture of one called a Coral Eating Worm, around page 350 I think. I also read a thread a while ago from someone showing the 6 footer he pulled out of his tank, living in his pvc.
