Are Conch's Poisonous?

My friend just called me and said that one of his books indicates that conches are extremely poisonous. He didn't indicate which type but assured me he wasn't confusing them with cone shells. Anyone heard about this? I recommended he get a fighting conch because I dig mine but I certainly had no idea that they were dangerous. I'm assuming this is a mistake. Comments?
