Best Skimmer
In your opinion is the abosolute best out skimmer out of this list.
BubbleMaster 200 Euro-Reef RC-135 H&S A150-F2001 Deltec AP600 This is for a Shallow sandbed mixed reef, but I am moving towards a SPS dominated 90 gallon. If you own one of these or have had experince could you tell me why you think it is the best, or if you think there is a better skimmer in the $600.00 dollar range say so. thanks, mark |

Im a big fan of spray injection/beckett skimmers. They offer me the most flexability it what kind of foam i want to prduce. Once you have them set, they stay. This was my Aqua C ev180 on a mag 7 24 hours after cleaning. There is a big debate in another thread about beckett and NW, and you know, to each there own. I have had both and i like my EV the best, and i have a MRC reciruc on the way. Thats me and my tank. People feel strongly about this subject, me i could care less, one performes better for me.

Pretty well divided eh? people like what they buy. I cant think of a single skimmer in the $600 range that wont skim. You have 4 top of the line skimmers up there, you didnt think one would stand out did you?

I voted for H&S, because they have better pumps than the ER. I am a happy ER user. When the RC135 comes out with an Eheim pump, it will be better.
I agree with above. These are all good skimmers. I think what is more important is finding one with a footprint that will fit your application. If noise is a concern, try getting one of these skimmers in your sump, that will quiet it down.

I agree with Old Salty. Put any of those bad boys on your system and it will do the job. Find the best deal . Plenty of money to spend on other things. I bought a Euro-Reef blem but I'm not sure if they offer them anymore.

H&S is a sure thing. ATi BM200 is an unproven product, but looks promising.

I know they are all top of the line and will work very well, but there will more than likely be smaller things about them that will make one just that much better than the other.
thanks for the votes |

I was looking at Zeovit on Friday, are you thinking about a BK200 for this system? That is definitely out of the $600 price range. Check your PM for comments.

I dont know if anybody would know but; I have a MRC skimmer which I like but its a pain to clean and the Gen-X pump is loud and draws lots of watts. Is the H & S easier to clean then lets say a Euro Reef? I have never seen anybody comment on ease of cleaning as a plus for a particular skimmer.

Both are easy to maintain.

Best skimmer I've used to date is my MRC recirc beckett. I know it's not quiet... I know it's not energy efficient, but it skims like nothing I've used before(ER, ASM, Deltec).

I'd like to give this poll a bump, I know ER has done some model changes, and BubbleMaster has had some more time to prove itself.
Just curious if everyone still feels the same way. |

would the Pacifc Coast RPS-3000 Recirculating Protein Skimmer[Octopus DNW-200] keep up with these other skimmers listed in this thread?

A very quantitative question. It depends on cost, size, noise, tank load etc. It is better to pick a size or a price range then you can at least compare something, but from what I have seen and read ER (newer), Deltec, H&S, Bubbleking, Octopus, D&D Marine, Tunze and ASM all work very well. I have had the most experience with ASM, and every skimmer that I have used of theirs pulls out massive amounts of gunk from my systems. Some day someone (with large amounts of money and free time) will compare a pile of skimmers on the same system and get some quatitative results, until then I guess we read and make our best judgement calls.

In terms of performance only, I would re-rate these in this order:
BubbleMaster 200 H&S A150-F2001 Euro-Reef RC-135 Deltec AP600 In terms of construction quality only, I would re-rate these in this order: H&S A150-F2001 Euro-Reef RC-135 Deltec AP600 BubbleMaster 200 |

I voted for H&S for quality and price. The A150-2001 is a great price since it is very similar to the APF600.

I've been doing a lot of resarch on skimmers, I haven't seen any bad feedback on the H&S, all the others I've seen some complaints... So I think I'm leaning towards the H&S

Good choice. I heard H&S shipment arriving this coming week! Reserve before they sell out like previous 2 or 3 shipments.
