LPS Parasites
"Had" (operative word) a nice elegance. Several weeks back it began to dwindle. After painstaking scrutiny of every thing in my system I'd about given up when I found an unusual crustacean making what appeared to be a late night snack of what remained. Anyone out ther who can id this or know of a page for this kind of thing?

I have heard of nasty parasites attacking Acanthastrea. They get under the flesh to the skeleton, and are very difficult to remove. Have not personally experienced, but has made trading very tough.

A guy I know had the same crab inside of his echinata, he couldn't figure out why it was dying off so he decided to frag it. When he fragged it he found the same type of crab inside of the echinata.

I've pulled a few of those off of some acan and micro colonies, they're like ticks with how they dig in, definitely get rid of them if you find them. the good thing is that they don't seem to breed well in captivity, pretty much the ones you see are the ones that hitchhiked in with the colony

mine were pretty big compared to most parasites, about 1/4"x1/4", hard to spot though, because they'd dig their head into the polyp and cover it, so it would kind of look like there was a polyp sixed rock where a polyp should be until you looked really close

The one in the pic was about 1/8" in diameter. As for easy to spot? Yeah, it was easy to see after it had mostly decimated a 5-6" (base) elegance coral

Ohh, yeah and as for what it looks like, the best description would be very Tick like.
