What do you use to stain wood?
Im getting ready to stain my tank but wanted some advice to get the best results. Im going to be using Minwax Red Mahogony. Do I use a rag or just brush it on with a foam brush?
Do I leave it on for a few minutes and then wipe off or apply a thin layer on and let it dry? Also, how many coats of polyurethane is needed? Im going to be using Minwax Satin poly. Thanks all for your help. |

Check Google for staining tips. I bet you get the exact answers you need there. Just a suggestion.

what do do depends entirely on what species of wood you'll be staining. if you'll be staining a soft, porous wood like pine, you'll need to seal it first or it will end up looking blotchy when some areas take up stain while other's don't. IME that's the number one mistake that people make when staining pine -- failing to seal it first always results in an amateur looking job.
