Check Out My Wife! Wait....

Hey - there's something to be said about a catchy header.

Anyway, my wife and I spend countless hours on ReefCentral - I thought it'd be fun to show you guys a wife that is just as involved as I am!

We brought home a xenia frag a week or so ago. I know, I know - I'm going to hate it one day, but I love the motion. It's been doing well, but just last night my wife noticed this little guy hanging out underneath it:

I couldn't make it out too well, so I took a picture of it and zoomed in:

It looks like a zoanthid! My wife said "A FREEBIE!!!!" so we decided to move it before the xenia smothers it. Instead of doing what I would usually do, which is post a pic and ask for an ID, I let my wife go at it! (my next thread: "my tank is covered with aiptasia")

The gloves and protective glasses may be a bit much, but we know nothing about fragging and we've heard zoanthids can spit... Away she goes with my dremel, trying hard not to cut the xenia or the supposed zoanthid.

After she separated it, I took a pic of the closed-up little guy.

It was right at this point when i started wondering to myself, "I hope I'm not taking good care of aiptasia or a majano...." Either way, it was fun to watch her just as excited as I was. For all you guys out there with wives/girlfriends who think your obsession is strange, THERE'S HOPE!!!!

I cant even get my wife to feed the tank when I'm gone. I return the favor by refusing to feed the dog while shes gone.

Hard to tell from the pics. Take another close up when it opens in the bowl. I want to say mejano, only cause I have hundreds of them, but the peach/orange color is throwing me off a bit.

We already placed it back in the tank. It still isn't completely opened, so the pics wouldn't do much right now. I'll take a pic tomorrow, though.

The coloring is also why I didn't think it was a majano.... But then again, I'm not a pro at this yet...

I'm guessing Zoanth.

Don't forget to keep that Xenia isolated on the sand bed, you'll regret it otherwise...

BTW, good choice on the goggles, mask, and gloves. There's horror stories floating around about zoo juice, steam, etc.

I too will go w/ Majano, but it also somwhat resembles a Duncan, which would be the hitchhiker score of a lifetime.

In regards to Majano's, most that I have seen are green, but I have seen plenty of pinkish-orange ones.

Hay it looks like you are using a regular cut off wheel that comes with the dremel. Do your self a favor and go to home depot, and get one of these dremel diamond wheels thay last for ever, cut like a charm, and thay wont break.

My bad if you all ready all ready have one. I am just saying cuz it just looks like a regular cut off wheel with the dremal on. It just looks to black to be a diamond wheel. But maby it just me.

Sure looks like a zoanithid to me.

I got my husband into this hobby. He is involved to a point. He doesn't know about chemistry of a reef tank. He could do a water change, after I would make the FSW. He can frag, catch fish and otherwise enjoys the hobby. (I let him think the 180 gallon tank is his, although he wouldn't be able to take care of it if it wasn't for me.) He is even a member of the reef group. Sometimes I wonder if he knows what we are talking about.
His knowlege is nil but his help is wonderful.

I say ZOA. And good choice with the protective gear. This guy had a small dog and the guy had had a tank of zoos and the dog drank out of the sump and died. I dont know why the dog drank out of it in the first place I would think it would smell the salt in the water.
