Left handed peacock!
I was at my shop the other day and lo and behold! They had a peacock mantis in stock! I had a close look at it and realized it had lost all its pereiopods on the right side So I bought it and dubbed it Lefty.
Its doing well in the tank and loves prawns and crabs(I had to crack the crabs open for the first few days because it just tried to grab them but wouldn't strike with it's clubbers...after a few days it went into turbo kill mode with the crabs)...because its only got 'legs' on the left side it does this weird swaying walk when it moves about...which is pretty amusing till you realize that you're in fact laughing at a cripple...oops. Now I have to get another tank to house Clunk, my Chiragra, which I had to move into a bag temporarily...like Zero, my Glabrous, as soon as I had moved it into a zip bag, he decides to moult. |

As long as he's eating, he should be find. Eventually, he'll probably start regenerating the lost appendages with each molting. Also, Scyllarus are prone to the loss of a raptorial appendage.

He/she is great. It will grab the cleaning stick I use to prod food towards it and then when it realizes its not edible will smack it a few times...then turn around in a huff and blow detritus and sand at it.
It also does this if I look too long as if to say, "Eh, pish off! This ain't no showboat yeh?" |
