Cad
So what is the deal with these CAD T-5 HO light fixtures I see on eBay?
They seem way too good to be true...any thoughts or experiences?

How about the actual lighting? I was looking at some of their fixtures and I noticed they didn't have built in fans or anything.
I paid a certain price for a (4)39w HO T-5 fixture and their selling a (6)39w HO T-5 fixture for the same price...

I have a 6x24w on the CAD nano tank I bought, and it is a decent T5 fixture. Now, I have very limited T5 experience, so take that with a grain of salt. The only thing I don't like is the lack of individual reflectors. Seems solid. No fans though, and the housing does get rather warm, but no heat issues on the tank itself.

Just like TEK lights, they don't come with fans. I guess they figured it dosn't cause as much heat as Halides. So they build a lot of vents on the T5 fixture to off set the NO FANS

How hot does your fixture get Charles?

I think T5's and Halides shouldn't reach above 130 degrees F or so. As long as it doesn't, the life and operation of the lamps won't really be effected. That's what some Aquactinics people (Tom) mentioned to me before.

On the same note, they shouldn't get to cold either. There is a prime operating temp for bulbs and ballasts.

Not that hot Ant. My new 24" 250MH is way loud compared to it with a single fan.

I've got a cadlights 34. As was stated above, quality control is lacking but customer service is pretty good. My fixture is a 150w mh and 2xT-5s. The lights and tank are Chinese so, there are minor quality issues, but overall I'm happy with the setup. Heat is minimal. The fixture is about three inches above the water and my temp stays around 77-78.
