Care for soft corals?
What is the necessary care that soft corals need? I have a 30 gallon tank with power compact lighting they are not looking as good as they have in the past, I mean they dont look bad, I have some zoos, xenia (i dont think its pulsating), and kenya tree, and green star polyps.
Should I bee adding things to the water or some type of food for them? |

It's amazing how many people ask questions like this. It's similar to someone asking, "My car is squeaking. It's a Chevy. Any ideas?" It is a valid question, but the possibilities are so numerous that it is impossible to answer without more information.
What are your: - Water parameters (temp/pH/Ca/Alk/NH3/NO2/NO3) - Lighting (you said PC, but wattage, bulb type?) - Filtration (mechanical/chemical) - Pumps/circulation - Sand bed depth/type - Amount of rock - Feeding schedule - Supplement schedule Then, when you say "they are not looking as good as the have in the past", what do you mean: - Dying/necrosis - Color change - Polyps not opening - etc. That all said, given that all of your corals are photosynthetic I would first look towards lighting and water quality issues. Of course I can't get any more specific until you provide more data. Dan |
