Question Anybody using ocean water?

My LFS just recently started selling ocean water at $1.19 a gallon. They said that the parameters were all up to par. Is there any pros or cons to using ocean water?

I used to use NSW and never had any problems. Some people use it and some people are dead set against it.

Does your LFS filter the water first and how do they obtain it? if so I would propbably use it every once in a while just for kicks, probably cheaper per gallon to just mix salt with ro/di.

Yeah, I figured it would be cheaper to do it myself, but I thought it might be a bit easier. They have a 750 gal drum in the back and it is filtered.

well if you have your own ro/di maker then would it really be easier?

when I collected NSW from the ocean it got really tiring really quick carrying 5gal bottles of water across hot sand, scorching pavement and did I mention the heat?

So I guess what I am saying is that if you only need a few gallons of saltwater then yes it might be easier but if you have large system then I am not so sure?

My next investment is an ro/di. It is already a pain to lug big bottles back and forth from the water store.

I have a salt water delivery service brings me the water for my water changes, This is the same services that my lfs uses. I have never use any other water since I started the tank and i think it is great so far, I can't really compared because I have yet to mix salt in this tank, however, I find that the quality, covenience and even the price are good.
