want more flow .... powerhead options
I have a 55 gallon .... I am currently running 2 maxi jet 1200s ... a CPR BAKPAK with a rio 600 pump and a aquaclear 70. I want to get some more flow through my rock work but I don't really want to add more clutter to the inside of my tank. I was thinking about a closed loop, but was hoping that maybe I could get rid of the maxi jets and get a couple of tunze nanostream pumps!?!? I have never used them before so I was hoping to get some opinions on them or other ideas you may have. Thanks.

The nanostreams are nice, also look at the Hydor Koralia pumps. There are numerous threads here about both if you do a search.

Use the Maxi mods..... that will beef up your system. I dont think they are very expensive.

I would go with the Koralias-they work very well and seem to run cooler also. I have a mj mod in in my 55 and that works well but will replace with a Koralia soon.

If I mod my maxi-jets will two 1200 produce to much flow in a 55? The maxi jet mod kit website says (using the medium kit) That is produces around 1500 gph

I would not worry about too much flow. I started with a maximod high flow. I shaved it down as I thought it was too much at first. I have since added a tunze 6100. Both work great and the fish love it. i do not get much that settles on the bottom. I have a 40B.
