ReefLux 10K MH Blub?
Are the ReefLux 10k blubs any good?
How do they compare to XM 10K blubs? Currently, I am using a XM 10k blub and I am happy with the color and PAR. However, I have been looking into buying the Lumenarc Mini MH Retor setup. If you guys are currently using the ReefLux 10k blubs, please give you input. Thanks in advance for all your help!!!

for my last bulbs swap over my 36x36 (4x250w) i couldn't decide on bulbs, so i got one of each that i was interested in. *everyone* who sees it agrees that the reeflux10K looks the best (against 10K XM, 10K Ushio and 14.5K Giesemann). pretty fitting that the cheapest bulb won, though i am gonna run the others for a few months at least to see what the corals have to say about it.
with ther RF10K, blues and greens pop a little more than you'd expect under a 10K, but more importantly everyone agrees that something about it looks 'clearer & sharper' for some reason. side by side with the others, it does have a *slight* pink tinge. but by itself you don't see it. older versions of the bulb had an overwhelming pink tinge. i'm running SE on icecaps, mileage may vary on others. |

Manderx have you tried the 12k? Sorry N_V_S I don't mean to hijack your thread but I'm looking at the Reeflux and can't decide between the 10k and the 12k.

yeah, i ran 12Ks right before the swap to 10K. they were nice enough. i really liked them at first after coming off the harsh white 175w iwasaki 14s, but after 6 months or so they lost their luster (dunno it they started to burn out or i was just bored with them). i'd say it probably comes down to personal preference between the 10K and 12K.

Thanks for the response. I think I'll try the 12k and see how I like them. I've been running Ushio 10k on Ice Cap's and I think they look a little yellowish.

I used 10k XMs for the last two years and wanted just a touch more blue. I spoke with David at Coralvue and he suggested the 10k Reeflux. He thought the 12k might be more blue than I was wanting since I use VHO Super Actinics also for coloration.
He was right on! I really like the color of the Reeflux 10k with my actinics and they are not bad by themselves in fact. |

I wish I would have read your post a little sooner. I just ordered the 12k's. I will be running 4 96 watt PC's with them I hope it isn't to blue. I guess I'll find out when they get here.

I have the 10k Reeflux DE 150w and it is more blue than I expected, but I like it a lot. Really made the colors pop. Running it on an Odyssea fixture with what I believe are magnetic ballasts. I am waiting on a 12k SE 250w that will also be running on a magnetic ballast (M58).
As for the pink tint, I don't notice it in my tank, but looking at the glass shield, the blue does look a little purple-ish, at least compared to a Phoenix 14k running on the same fixture. In the tank, I don't notice a difference, but I don't have as much experience with MH. To my eyes/brain, they bulbs are more or less the same as far as my corals are concerned. But I do love the color of the Reeflux 10k, and I swear my euphyllias are happier for it. That's my 2 cents so bite me. |

Have run both multiple times....currently running 400W SE RL 10K in a LumenMax2 on an Icecap....blows the xm10k away in color, obviously doesn't have the PAR, but looks MUCH better - ime.(also ran 12K's on old tank...they wre VERY dim, but a great blue)
Jimdogg187....may, but may not all the time. They were made to run off e-ballats, but can be run on mag.'s.

m58's are magnetic 250w ballasts....like i was saying before, they might work. I ran my current RL 10K 400w se on an m59(400w version of m58) and it took 40 minutes to fire the first time, but then worked flawlessly on a timer for about two weeks until i swapped in an Icecap ballast.

You know, I never stopped to ask if these reeflux 10k/s were shielded or not? I am running my rig with 2x175w MH 10k XMs (with a 250w 10K XM in the center currently off due to overkill in my 6 ft-130 gal setup - also open faced) over open surface nothing between the lamp and water...everything seems to be in order, but what SHOULD I be doing?.....its like jumping then remembering you needed a parachute....
Just bought a DE reflector for the 250 in the center b/c I want more blue.....was gonna slam a reeflux 250w 12K in that bad boy so that I can get rid of my 4x96w VHO actnics

Single ended (Mogul) bulbs do not need to be shielded, double ended (HQI) bulbs do. I use mogul bulbs about 8 inches above the water unshielded and have never had a problem in 3.5 years. I suppose there is always that chance but I hate cleaning salt spray off of glass all the time.

Do it!!! You won't regret it and it is one of the cheapest bulb you can get. I'm not too sure why but it made 4 of my SPS have blue tips when they were never blue tip. I run them on Icecap 250 with some T5 supplements and I love it.
