do radiums need shields
i just got a se 400w radium bulb to be run on a pfo hqi ballast and was reading the instruction booklet. its says to use a shield. is the glass envelope the shield or do i need a glass shield between it and my tank? i know this may be a silly question but i wasn't sure

You dont need a Shield.
PFO HQI said that because typically when you use these ballasts they are for DE bulbs. BUt you don't need a shield with a SE bulb |

Say hello to a glorious short bulb life! You REALLY might want to consider a M135 or 155 ballast for the radiums... they arent HQI rated, not even 400 watt bulbs technically (360's). Either that, or use Aquaconnects.
