Star Polyps

I have a rock with green star polyps on it. The polyps have been closed for a couple of weeks, but the purple mat is intact and looks healthy. However, the number of polyps seem to have decreased. Do the polyps grow directly out of the mat? I'm wondering if this colony will eventually grow back or reopen.

ya it will....I had some similar problem not sure what causes it. Mine eventually got covered with algea. Just take an old tooth brush and clean them off....they will eventually bounce back. Mine took a couple of weeks.

seems odd that they would all close. Have you checked Salinity and nutrients? Burned out, cracked, or old bulb? I have 3 Star Polyps and that has never happened.

It is interesting because I have another colony of the same coral in this tank and it has never looked better. I'll try to be patient, at least as long as the mat remains purple and doesn't fall apart.
