How do I make a Carbon Filter with Pantyhose?

Do you just put the Carbon in the Toe area of the pantyhose, rinse it, and put it in the tank???

I've obviously never done this before. Just want to run carbon for 3-4 days for a quick water polishing.

use new ladies' kneehighs, drop in as much as you need, tie a knot in the sock, rinse, drop into downflow or return chamber or wherever else you get good flow. Kneehighs are about 50 cents a pair, ie, 25 cents a kneehigh, and can be tossed when expired. I'd choose beige, not the black dyed.

So many opportunities for a dirty joke here....but I wont.
using pantyhose works great but i have found that using a very small amount of GAC or phosphate remover works best as the center doesnt seem to get any water flow, same as using an expensive filter bag.

Well here's what I ended up doing, I have a knee-high pantyhose with carbon knotted inside right next to a powerhead that is rippling the water surface. Should do the tank some good for the next 3-4 days.

LOL, they're new. I swear.

Interesting experience in the local market asking an 80 year old employee where knee high stockings are though.

By some miracle, and I can't make this stuff up, she responds with "What kind of filter are you making?"

My jaw dropped to the floor.

Use a media bag! the pantyhose might rip on you and make a bigger mess then it's worth.. even petsmart sells media bags for a buck or two and you can use it over many times.

I use the ones my wife is "done" with. Sometimes she doesn't know she is done with them when I need 1. Then I usually end up buying her a new pair.

I have always wanted to use some in a pinch when i didnt have a empty media bag handy, but i thought the beige was dyed as well. Just thought the dye could harm corals ...
