best heaters, watts/gal? lowest online price?

in trying to find the heaters for my 3 aquariums
(packed away somewhere have no idea) i have chosen to just go out and purchase all new... mainly bec when the original ones were purchased i have learned so much more and realize its (perhaps) not as simple as going out and just buying a heater at walmart

one thing i learned here on RC
that had not previously thought about was using 2 smaller heaters vs 1 large one (on a larger reef) like i have always done in the past...

in case 1 fails there is a backup - seems like pretty good advice to me!

what are the recom watts/gal for heaters?
for instance have 3 tanks...
150 fowlr
125 reef - part of 210gal system
30 minireef

what best heater to use ???
material type etc
assuming glass is not best

does anyone have some online sites w/ lowest prices?

this site recoms
3-5 watts/gal

that recommendation seems pretty good. I've always been partial to the combo of two smaller Ebo Jager heaters (they are glass, but sturdy), running on a temperature controller like a Neptune or a Medusa.

You are going to get a lot of different anwsers here. I personally swear by the Viso Therm Stealth heaters... Fully submersible and shatter proof. A good place to start looking would be Dr. Foster.

A heater is one thing where you want to get the best in spite of the price.
In the last 2 years I have had 2 Won Brothers TI heaters go ballistic and 2 Stealths. All were replaced by the manufacture and none cooked the tank. I was lucky. The Visa Therm non Stealth is good as are the Jager heaters. R

Other than the Jager heaters, I've had almost every brand/type die on me. They're the only ones I buy now.

I agree that two heaters in larger tanks is best. 3-5 wpg will generally raise up to 10 degrees above room temp, I believe. If you have a really cold house, you should get more WPG.

thanks for the replies and recoms
believe i will go w/ the recom Jager heaters - the price is very reasonable too!...

for those using the jager heaters
it seems that they are not 'submersible' fully that is... and the top has to be out of the water - about the only thing i dont like as used to dropping in sump.

regards

they are fully submersible. I have run them completely underwater for years.

my heaters have a "submersible line" on them, too. I don't care. they have been underwater for years.
