Algea Question
Hi,
I have been having this algea problem. My tank is a around 1 year old now and I don't have any coralline growing and I have this brown algea growing on my sand bed and its on my rocks. Could it be diatoms? I wouldn't think it would be that cuz my tank hasn't been just set up. Could it be phosphates? I don't think so because I use RO water. I don't think I am over feeding. I feed an Algea sheet once a day or every other day and I feed flakes once maybe twice a day. Its a 55 gallon tank and I am just using a HOB Aqua Clear Filter and I have a powerhead in there and I have a Prizm skimmer running. I am pretty sure I have enough flow in there. let me know what you guys think. Thanks |

Really need pics to tell what it is. However I don't know what type and how many fish you have but sounds like you are over feeding by a huge amount. I feed my fish every two days and feed them vary sparingly. All are very healthy and long lived. A full sheet of algae - I assume the ones that are roughly 3"x6" is enough food for a couple of weeks for a normal tang. Algae eaters will usually graze the aquarium for a lot of their food. I would immediately cut down on the food, siphon out the brown stuff and do a normal water change.
