all tangs when hiding in dark enviorments regardless of health will get white lines down both sides. usualy its most often noticed when lights first come on and they have been asleep. but it happens when they go behind rockwork in dark areas for long periods of time. its very normal.
yellow tangs are also very shy, they hide more so them most tangs with the exception of the Hippo IME. i cant comment on your hippo as you posted no pic so its hard to say.
im guessing when you said, , a yellow sailfin tang and a watchmen goby. that you left out a comma between yellow and sailfin??????????? yellow and sailfin are two very different tangs.
