Like Sooner said, they do make their way to the main tank and in great numbers. Some think they would get chopped up and killed by the impeller of the return pump but they are too small for that.

Just a month ago I had a 1.5in. long Diamond Goby make his way down the overflow, over the bubble wall and into the return area of the sump where he stayed for 2 days and then a few days later, I spotted him back up in the main tank. If a small Goby can go through a Mag12 pump then surely a copepod can as well.
