I have the same skimmer.It pulls about an inch of dark green skimmate perday. It all depends on the tanks bioload however.

Yes the glass top. Thats what I am trying to weigh do you get more useful light without it and does that outweigh the increase in evap.
Just wondering what others do.

I too live in Hampton Bays and I highly recommend Don at Aqua Hut as the only fair priced LFS with a good inventory of fish,inverts and dry goods.

I currently have a pair of Aflamebacks and a flame in a 150.

If you have a heavy bioload(i.e. fish) it is more of a benefit to run the carbon. Frequent water changes are also preferred. This will help lower nitrates as well as keep the water at maximum...

If you do bimonthly water changes(15%) you can run carbon continuously in the canister. The water changes will replace any trace elements removed by the carbon.

I normally don't use the poly filters but...

I normally don't use the poly filters but allegdly they remove PO4 as well,so I swapped the carbon this month for poly filters.. Normally I use carbon(kent reef carbon changed monthly).

I have 3 150 watt phoenix 14k bulbs in a sunpod. They get more white over time. Not a bad bulb for $. Much better then the bulbs that came with the fixture.
