3/8" will be plenty, it's only 12" deep. And you can get away with pretty light bracing as well, maybe a 2" eurobrace with good radius corners.

You would want to wrap cast tubing around a form. Cast tubing would be more expensive and stretching it more than a couple inches would thin the wall considerably even if you could do it evenly.
